Hi! I do this a lot in my free time! Here is a quick guide.

A picker uper is a must. I have used nearly all the different brands on amazon including the one you reccomended. That model is nice and light, but has plastic internals and breaks easily. I would rather reccomend a grabber with succion cups and metal strips like this 40" model. 40" will be just a little too heavy and cumbersome for most people unless you are fairly athletic. 32" works for nearly everyone, but they also make smaller sizes for shorter people.

I just go out with a backpack and 20 or so grocery bags and start picking. Noone ever bothers me or seems to find it strange. I have cleaned up everything from small parks to appartment complexes to illegal dumps in the woods (mostly metal, construction debris, tires on public but non-park land), and not once has anyone approached me or bothered me for what i was doing.

Mavis discount tires will take up to 10 tires at a time for free. Most other places will charge around 2-3$ each. They are usually taken to cement plants and used to replace coal in the firing process.

You dont need to wash most recyclables, as they get thoroughly rinsed at the plant, and it would be a waste of water to do so yourself. You may want to consider soaking or discarding especially dirty pieces of plastic, however, in fear that the garbage collector will reject the recycling for being too dirty.

Gloves are a good idea. I would NOT reccomend latex gloves, go with something thicker like nitrile, or multiple use long sleved gloves.

Also, especially if you live in the city, be warry of needles. People tend to hide them better than standard litter so they end up showing up when you dont really expect them. Disposing of needles with the rest of the litter is illegal as far as i know, so you may want to be proactive and buy a small sharps container ahead of time. If you find a needle, dont be one of those dipshits who tries to disable it first by bending or cutting the tip. You wont be able to snap the plastic and youre really likely to stab yourself. Just leave the cap on and put it into another rigid container.

I've recently purchased one of these, it's really handy for grabbing points that are underwater, up a steep embankment, or if you just don't want to bend over 1000 times in a day.
