I would recommend the Asus ROG Strix Scar/Hero edition 17 inch/15 inch.
Both offer 120hz screens and a gtx1060. They might be a little bit over your budget but they are also thin as well.

EDIT: If you are willing to go a little over your budget I would recommend that MSI GE63VR Raider as it has the same as above except it can be overclocked and has a better response rate, port selection, (the msi1060 performs better than the rog1060) keyboard, and it has better cooling. The gamer aesthetic might be heavier tho.

Probably not, There's 2 models to this laptop - 60hz and 120hz but still good laptop.

Try ask the seller.

Oh, these both are 60Hz. Just looking at these two, Predator indeed looks like better value. In general if the device isn't saying it's refresh rate it's 60 or 75Hz - because 120/144Hz would be a great selling point to people who know what it means. If you watch some video comparisons or whatever, it's hard to personally tell on a 60Hz screen, but anyone who tried gaming with 120Hz+ would never want to go back.

If you don't mind the tacky aesthetics of MSI, they have a lot of great options for the price range such as GE63VR.

GL703VM by Asus is currently on sale(as newer models have came out) and for 1400$ it also looks like a fairly good purchase to make.

For myself in particular I'm looking at a somewhat pricier model by ASUS, the GL703GS. It's new model and has just about everything I would want in a laptop.

Is it this one? https://www.amazon.com/GL703VM-Gaming-Laptop-i7-7700HQ-Keyboard/dp/B076D95R1P

It has everything I'm looking for except it's 17" instead of 15. It won't fit in my bag.

There is a mechanical keyboard within budget on this CYBERPOWERPC Tracer II but the screen is only 15.6 inch if you can settle for that, if not then I would recommend this Asus Rog Strix GL703VD because it comes with everything you need and it’s way better than the MSI GP72X , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD wide panel IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, long battery life, very good heat management, GPU that should be able to handle Most the of the games on the market on medium to high settings with very good FPs, The keyboard is the RGB Aura keyboard, which features customizable RGB lighting and lets you set various colors and effects across the four colored zones. At close to 2 mm, key travel is a notch above most notebooks, The typing experience is a mixed bag: there's a slight curvature to the key caps, which helps the typing accuracy, but the feedback is somewhat lacking and a just a bit soft . The space bar is wider on the left side and three of the four arrow keys sit below the keyboard for greater isolation and to improve gaming ergonomics. Speaking of the space bar: while most of the keys are very quiet, the space bar is a little more obtrusive and its clatter might be disturbing to some in noise sensitive environments. There's also a set of four dedicated buttons on the left above the function key row, which allow you to mute, increase or decrease the volume and launch the Republic of Gamers Gaming Center, if this is the kind of keyboard you would probably like it would be great match for you and it is within your budget.

Think about it logically. What MacOS specific software do you absolutely need that you cannot replicate in a Windows environment? If the answer is "none", then ignore what your team says and get the machine that suits you best.

Even better, buy a Windows laptop with good specs and do a dual boot by hackintosh'ing it. Windows for gaming, MacOS for "work". The Asus ROG Strix Scar is an excellent choice. The 17 inch with the GTX 1060 is $1460 and the 15 inch with the GTX 1070 is $1900. Or skip the whole dual boot and just virtualize MacOS since the computer is beefy enough to do it.

For comparison, the cheapest 15 inch MacBook Pro is $2400. You would have to get the newer 15 inch version because all 13 inch MacBook Pros do NOT have a dedicated GPU and the $2000 15 inch MacBook Pro uses Intel Iris Pro graphics. The Intel Iris Pro is on par with the GT 1030... or the nearly 8 year old GTX 460.

The Alienware is carrying a 1070ti

The ASUS ROG scar GL is running (saw a version with 1050ti and 1060)

With the processors both of them are carrying, the Alienware is going to be a better bet performance wise.
The ROG scar would be a good compromise for the 6gb 1060, (extra VRAM is important)
I personally DO NOT like alienware, that new Dell XPS and the HP Spectre gaming laptops are pretty sweet too if you haven't seen them.

I see a lot of models carrying the 7th gen intel chips, It would probably be worthwhile to find one with an 8750HK or something for the extra 50% core count.

I'm just curious, but this is the first time to see someone prefer TN panels for their image quality. Unfortunately, even high end TN panels cannot match crappy IPS ones in terms of quality and they are currently being phased out. Backlight bleeding is a rare issue and there are ways to detect that, and it is always covered by warranty.

Seriously, there is no reason to prefer TN over IPS unless you are a pro e-sports player.

Anyway, this is the latest ROG Scar Edition that earns highly positive reviews from, eh, basically everyone so I guess this will be a solid choice.
