> How do you think it compares?
For everyday use like web browsing, streaming movies/music and doing some stuff in Office you won't notice much of a difference between an AMD A10 APU and an Intel i5 (the AMD A10 is on the same level as an Intel i3-4000M or i5-4200U, an Intel i5-4200M is above it). It may boot a little bit slower, just a couple of second. You would notice a difference in more CPU intensive tasks like encrypting, converting videos and such things.
> Are there any Asus laptops out there with a 4th gen i5?
Within your budget? Yes:
> Any other suggestions, whether it's Asus, has an AMD in it or whatever, that you might think would make a good choice for me?
Every laptop you linked or I suggested shouldn't have problems with Fallout New Vegas. It's quite old and not that demanding. It's only a question if you are willing to spend a little bit more for a 1080p display or not.
We normally don't recommend this because we like 1920x1080 screens, but if you're partial to Acer, then the i5 version X500LA-DH51 is a decent choice. It has a 1366x768 15.6" screen, i5 4200U processor, 8GB ram, 1TB HDD, a pretty good keyboard, HDMI, ethernet, bluetooth, 3 USB ports and weighs around 5 pounds.
The problem I am running into is finding a light laptop with external monitor support.
I would get this Lenovo T440 and get this Samsung 840 Evo. But yeah, one way or another, you're going to go over budget here.
Alternatively, the ASUS X550LA is cheaper and is a 15.6" laptop that only weighs 5.1 lbs.
That touch screen version has 2 USB 3.0 ports listed in the specs but the photos show 3. My current laptop has a separate mic and headphone jack so I assume that is what they meant.
This X550-DH51 was my first choice. It has the exact specs as the first K550LA you linked but is priced $180 higher (it was $600 when I first saw it saw it).
I'm thinking that the K550s are the cheap versions of their X550 equivalent. So for $100+ less i guess it's kind of hard to complain about just a missing USB and extra audio port. I think I may risk making the blind purchase here.
Oh, by the way, is there any deal breaking flaw about the G505s? I heard that Lenovo's build quality is on par with Asus.
An Asus for $599.99. With taxes and warranties, it'd end up at around $625
Saving up for this laptop, since my computer at home broke :( I have to live off redditing at work, which is horrible! I'm all productive and stuff! shivers
My $5 items are easily found on my other WL for crafting.
Best of luck with your camera!
