Looking to finish up my build in the next couple of days with a video card purchase. Few questions first.

  1. I was looking at either an RX 470 or 480, since my current monitor isn't that great and I'd like to have the option to get a freesync monitor eventually. The cheapest European options I've found (shipping inclusive are) the MSI 470 Gaming and Sapphire Nitro+ 480 4GB. Leaning towards the 480 for price/performance considering I can't find any sub-200 470 cards. Any reason not to pull the trigger on that one?

  2. I currently only have one case fan (exhaust), but would like to add at least one intake. MOBO on has one case fan header. I take it this is a simple as buying a splitter and another 120 mm PWM fan? How many fans could realistically be run from one header?

  3. Getting back to my monitor, it's VGA only. Totally not in the cards to replace it right now. Any recommendations on an active DVI-D to VGA adapter? Found this, for instance.

  4. I've heard that you don't currently need to buy a license to run Windows 10 -- that it just has a nag watermark and you can't change some cosmetic stuff. Really?

the 1030 only supports dvi-d, which no longer outputs the analog signal needed for vga. a active dvi-d to vga adapter would also work and keep your hdmi port free, if you want to connetc a tv or a new second monitor:

You can use an adapter.

If you want to use the DVI-D connection you need a special cable like this one.

You can not use an adapter like this because the DVI-D port on your graphics card has a digital signal only. VGA is an analog signal.

Or an HDMI to VGA would work too.
