Glad you asked :D

So first off the comfort on stock X00 sucks balls, I was very disappointed from the first moment. I tried a few pads and the best ones for me personally were the Sheepskin TH900 Dekoni pads: pic here, amazon link

Next up, a simple mod, but if you take off your pads, you can see this grey donut-shaped foam circle which has 4 holes on its sides. By rotating it to different position you can adjust the sound signature slightly. This is how it's set by default: picture here. The holes in the foam are basically aligned with the 4 screws in the body.

By rotating it like this, I noticed that the headphones get slightly less sibilent and soundstage increases just by a bit. Example here.

Feel free to experiment :)

Next up, I "destroyed" my original TH-X00 pads to salvage that plastic attenuation ring which lays inside them, because that's what gives the X00 their iconic bass. Pic1, Attenuation ring inside the new TH900 Dekoni pads.

Last thing, I opened up the X00 and stuffed the cups with this denser foam that I found in various product packages as a protective foam. And in the middle of the foam I placed cotton. I tried sponge instead of foam and other types of foams, but denser foam seems to work better. It makes the overall sound tighter and slightly improves details in the mids, especially vocals, brings them forward just by a touch. Some foams will improve treble more than mids, so it's really a hit & miss with this one, you simply have to try until you like it :p

So yeah. Overall the sound basically has a stock X00 bass with slightly more forward and detailed mids compared to stock and slightly smoother highs than stock, still bright tho but not sibilent, so for me personally more enjoyable - and of course the comfort is much improved thanks to the pads.

Not sure if you're talking about replacing the pads or the wood chambers. If you're talking about replacing the wood chambers (expensive, not really worth it acoustically) or the ear pads. After some pad rolling I've found the Dekoni sheepskin to be worthwhile. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2NXVJJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If you want to reduce bass response then Brainwaivz angled pads work well. There's a huge modding crowd for Fostex/Denon products, but gains are generally subjective and very expensive. Tyll has an interesting review of the line, TR/THX00's do pretty well. https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/survey-foster-443742-variants-subjective-listening-tests-denon-ah-d5000-massdrop-fostex-th More money than sense modding https://lawtonaudio.com/diymodkits.html

Whats the best leather pad option for a900x/z?

I just got the a900z and i LOVE it, but i just cant handle pleather. i already live in a hot an humid environment, if i dont change these pads I cant use them for more then like 2 songs. I've seen the post on head-fi listing earpads that fit:
>ATH A1000 pads

> Denon D2/5/7K pads

>Fostex TH600/900 pads

>Mr Speakers Alpha Pads

>A900ti pads

>J$ denon pads

>Lawton Angle Pads

>Shure SRH840/940 pads(but don't tuck under the lip at the back properly)

>Fostex T50RP pads(same problem as the shure pads)

> All the above fit the A900X.

But it doesnt really tell me what i SHOULD go with. I understand that different material and angle or non-angle all change the sound, but I dont know enough about what those changes are to make an educated decision.

I'd prefer if the sound just didn't change at all, but if it has to change I guess I'd like it warmer? above all, I'm using it for both music AND gaming so i dont want to ruin the um...soundstage? I think thats what I mean to say.

edit: would these be a good option?

edit2: according to what I've read a2000x pads are "clarino" meterial. any opinions on that material?
