this Dell Inspiron i7359-8404SLV is an ideal option for you to get. it comes with a decent Intel Dual Core i7-6500U 2.5 GHz Processor, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, a great screen display and a remarkable battery life. this PC will stream without hiccups, great for light gaming and decent for running your programs.

It really comes down to how much experiance you have with set up of a machine and how big you want your screen to be. With video streaming personally I would recomend a laptop with an HDMI port and plug it into your HDTV. I run an Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series with an i7 that you can find for under $800

Well a question I have is will you be putting any hefty files onto this computer?

This is where you need to ask yourself if you need 1TB. Yes, it seems like the standard these days, but I would personally have a 128GB SSD on a laptop than a 1TB HDD. The difference is a HDD or Hard Drive Disk, has mechanical parts. These parts move physically, thus take more time to load virtual data. An SSD or Solid State Drive has no moving parts, the storage drive uses flash memory, thus loading and working a lot quicker than a traditional mechanical HDD.

The benefits of an SSD are obvious. They are in general quicker, but more expensive per GB, while a HDD will offer raw storage capacity at reasonable speeds.

So in saying that, I recommend either this lenovo 2-in-1 or I would point you towards a machine that has solid-state storage built in like this Dell 2-in-1 with an i7 and 250gb of SSD storage

Both are good choices, but you need to consider if you need speed or raw storage.

Ah, yeah, I see. Check up with Amazon and ask how long the warranty is for a Warehouse Deal.

Yeaaah amazon is pretty good with that stuff I'll admit. I am more worried about things that will happen just outside of the warranty period. The model I am talking about in particular is
The [i7359-8404SLV] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015P3SKHQ/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B015P3SKHQ&linkCode=as2&tag=techneeqcom-20&linkId=2LBS4PE46SPC4BOE)

I have this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015P3SKHQ/ref=psdc_13896609011_t1_B01EIWHFAI

think I could run D2? I don't need it in the top settings

For what you will be doing, I really like the Dell Inspiron i7359-8404SLV a lot. I has an excellent keyboard, build quality, great performance specs and wonderful display quality.

I think there is no need for you to be worried, but if you want i7 then that is what you shall get :), I would suggest this Dell Inspiron i7359 because it comes with Intel Dual Core i7-6500U 2.5 GHz Processor(just like you wanted),
8 GB DDR3L SDRAM(great for multitasking),
256 GB SSD Storage(great for faster booting and loading), 13.3 Inch FHD(just like you wanted) (1920 x 1080 pixels) LED-lit Truelife Touchscreen(an extra bonus),
Windows 10 Operating System, and lightweight at 3.66 lbs.

The Dell Inspiron i7359-8404SLV is a very good pick- the only down fall is that it has a 256 GB SSD instead OF the 500 you would have liked... But this laptop has a great build quality, nice battery life, great display quality and of course, it has a nice keyboard and great performance power with that 8 GB RAM, fast SSD and i7 6th gen processor.

I own the i7, 8Gb, 256 SSD version and I enjoy it.

That being said, that's not a very competitive price for those specs ($790 for an i5 and 128Gb SSD).

This one is cheaper with better specs:

I think you'd be best with this Dell Inspiron i7359 manufacturer refurb.

The i7359 gets 95% sRGB coverage, so it's about the best display you can get within this price range. It also keeps its factory warranty, despite the refurb status, but you save a lot of money.
A new one costs ~$700, but that may be worth it to you as well for the SSD and i7 if you can swing the extra dough.

Be weary of the Acer V3-372T suggested, as it gets 35% sRGB coverage and wouldn't work well for your needs.

Thank you for the detail and for the links! I have a couple of follow up questions:

  1. What is the difference between expanding a 128GB SSD for 256GB total, vs. getting a 256GB SSD out of the box? Will I have to change anything about what I do with my files, or is the difference not noticeable?

  2. How noticeable is the difference between the XPS and the Inspiron series? There is an Inspiron on Amazon that actually exceeds the specs (i7, 256 GB SSD) at a cheaper price than the others: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B015P3SKHQ

    EDIT: clarify question 1.

Opinion? It seems like a very similar option. Is there a big difference re: dell vs lenovo?
