I just hope that we have a D&D game with Lockwood in prison or at least a reference because of the work that Sam has done.

In regards to Al-Quadim, Maztica, Oriental Adventures and whatnot... The same ol bizarros also decry that stuff as problematic and cultural appropriation. I haven't seen that documentary, but I have a question: what was the focus of it? Like First and Second edition mainly, or did every edition get equal coverage? I bring it up because with the big Art & Arcana book they put out last year, 80% of the book or more was devoted to the TSR days with the rest barely touching on the WOTC years. Pretty telling if you ask me.

Whichever of you publishers reads this thread, I would love something like the Art and Arcana book for DnD but for board games

This is my rec. It just came out not too long ago so unless he just bought it for himself, he probably won't have it. It's not specifically a game book but it is related, and great for anyone who likes the art and history of the game.

Art and Arcana

I recently got this one as a gift, awesome stuff if he likes D&D: the ART&ARCANA book. There is even a special version with extras if you want something fancier (which I haven't checked TBH).

Maybe you can get that for 35 in a local bookshop, so he can trade if necessary.

The D&D Art and Arcana book that came out last fall is wonderful, it covers all eras of D&D art.

But it's really cool sometimes to revisit a time before the Pern stuff, before Spyro, Toothless, Temeraire etc. when there was just Tolkien, early D&D, the psychedelic era and so on. If you know of more references let me know, it's an aesthetic I can't get enough of.
