Great job booking early. I booked a rental home last January with direct access to a network of Forest Service roads that wind north into the maximum totality zone, which means no need to deal with highway traffic. Be sure to pick up sun filter glasses--I grabbed a 10 pack of these glasses, which work like a charm. You can stare at the sun directly wearing them, which is endlessly fascinating as you can see interesting solar details.
