I don't understand where people come up with these prices some times, like who would ever pay $620 for a 780 ti now?

Edit: Now that's a much better price (but still too high when a dcuii is 480 new).

EVGA SC Ref should run at 980Mhz and 1046 Boost.


The Non-Reference runs at 1006Mhz and 1072 Boost.

And finally my card runs at 1020Mhz and 1085 Boost.

Really, it's the 4k monitor that's the oddball.

Gaming across all three would probably be pretty easy, actually, if you ran your games at 5760x1080 (3x 1920x1080).

It's finding monitors that match closely enough in size and color quality to whichever 4k display you end up using.

Here's what I came up with:

• 144hz: Philips Brilliance 144hz 27" gaming monitor ($350 CAD)
  
• 3D: Asus VG278H nVidia 3D-Vision certified monitor with glasses ($991 CAD)
  
• 4K: Samsung U28D590D 28" 4k display ($781 CAD)
  
  Total cost for monitors: about $2,125 CAD. Actual 3D monitors with glasses are hard to find... :-\
  
  Videocards. Either
  
  
• EVGA GTX 780 Ti 3GB ($820 CAD)
  
  x2 ($1640 CAD) or
  
  
• EVGA GTX 780 6GB ($580 CAD)
  
  x3 ($1740 CAD)
  
  The dual 780 Tis will be faster, but if you're doing 3D modelling or dev work, you might appreciate the extra vram in the triple-780 setup.
  
  That brings you to around $3,800 CAD before you ever get to the PC, although that'd only be about another $1,000 or so.

Similar EVGA card from Amazon at $608 if you're willing to put up with a small cosmetic imperfection. I got a great deal on a similar EVGA 780 Classified that was essentially new and with it's warranty intact.

Here's the current Amazon offerings for my exact card. It'd be great to get $300-350.

Didn't both cards fall victim to price gouging? i.e. this and this. In which case they would be about equal in $/fps overall. However further research shows that indeed for some time the 290x was cheaper, which would probably indeed give it a better $/fps, though again it would depend on when you bought the card. Today, at least on amazon, you can find the 780ti for ~$250 whereas the 290x for ~$350.

I have only recently become a PC enthusiast so feel free to correct my quick google search summary.

With any of these cards you shouldn't have any problem running GTA V in ultra, or even a modded version ahaha. But also if you can wait for some extra time, I would recommend waiting until the mid September, as rumors are going around that the GTX 880 will be released, and it should kill both of these GPUS.

From my experience with Asus GPUs, the DC2 coolers and configs are really good. I'm using at the moment a GTX 760 and under heavy load the temps are really low.

Also from what I see about the reviews for the R9 290x for the asus model, the temps are way lower than the reference card, as well as the extra performance boost that you can get.

780 Ti's would also be nice. However I would get an i7 sooner than spending $1400 on GPUs.
