they didn't go the softbox route, mainly because most all softboxes you find from retailers are damn expensive (with the exception of adorama's flashpoint models). If you are looking for standard sized softboxes of decent quality for the absolute best price, choose Fotodiox sold on Amazon.com. You can get a 32"x48" softbox for only $55! I managed to get one back when it was like $38 or so. If you don't get a strobe and mount specific speedring, just get the bowens mount version and grab a bowens speedring adapter for your speedlight.
