Taa-Daa. Don't try and grind away your plug. There are a number of bypasses for this problem. Go to your local Best Buy/Radio Shack and get a little tiny extender cable. Problem solved.
Your are 100% correct on both.
I use an adaptor like this one to connect the AUX in in the car or a stereo.
Otherwise, a great case.

I have 2 of these, incase I ever loose one. I've never had a problem with them, except they are very cheaply made and they feel it. Wouldn't take much to break the wire in them. I've had them for a long time though, 2 years no problem though.

I've seen people use these as portable headphones, though not often. Here are the pros and cons of the M50's (from a portable standpoint):
Pros:
-Sound quality is excellent (they are meant to be studio monitor headphones)
-Level of comfort (I personally find these headphones to be the most comfortable I've ever tried on since the ear pads are large and soft, though it will likely differ from person to person given varying head/ear sizes)
-Incredibly durable (you can definitely toss these in your bag and not worry about them long as they are properly folded up. These things are built like a tank)
Cons:
-Size (again, these were not meant to be portable)
-Thickness and weight of cord (the cord comes in two varieties, coiled or straight on the M50s, but either way it's really long for portable use and adds some weight of its own due to the thickness. It's also not detachable, sadly)
-Size of input jack (the input jack is pretty large so if the iphone is in a case that causes the headphone port to be recessed, you're going to need to carry around something like this to plug the headphones in)
