I had a similar thing trying to take a pass the bomb game through security. They did not believe that a plastic cartoon bomb was not a threat and so confiscated it, despite me being able to show them that it was a plastic shell full of cards...
The year after my younger brother tried to bring scissors onto the plane. We now don't carry hand luggage so we can't make these mistakes.
