They'll probably be decent. If the look doesn't bother you that much though, I'd recommend these boots. (You can see the soles here.) I use the 800gm in Vermont, but 400 might be sufficient there, depending on where you are. The leather certainly isn't as nice, but they're waterproof, insulated, last not horribly for the price, and that sole grabs hardpack and ice as well as any I've come across.
