I ended up purchasing a HICTOP Prusa i3 clone (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YA8VHI2 and later purchased a self leveler at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J3NONM0). I have had very good success with both the kit building and its accuracy in printing. The parts turned out to be pretty decent and they do respond to email inquiries in a timely manner.

You learn a lot from building your own printer both in knowing how it works and in being able to zero in on printing issues as they arise.
