There are many text books on human learning that detail why physical punishment is bad. Please take the classes.
This looks like the newest edition of the book I used. However, I'm not sure. I'll have to message a few people to see if I can find it. The one I had was very behaviorist oriented and went into detail about the physical punishment experiments used in the 20's and 30's on animals. You'll probably want to see information on Learned Helplessness. Which is one of the direct causes of physical punishment (in essence "If I do X, I get punished, if I do Y I get punished. I can only do X or Y. So... either way I get punished. The only option I have is to take it).
