I always keep a couple of Kind bars in my bag - you can get them off Amazon (I've got a subscription: http://www.amazon.com/KIND-Peanut-Butter-Chocolate-Protein/dp/B008JKU2CO/).

Another thing that's certainly more expensive, but has changed my life. I dropped $400+ on a Blendtec blender and make smoothies every couple days with protein, veggies, and fruit. They're fantastic for before and/or after riding to and from work. I usually carry 2-3 in "Blender Bottles" into work with me and then drink them as needed over 2-3 days. I've yet to stop on the side of the road and drink one, but I'm sure it'll happen someday.
