I bought a refurbished kitchen aid stand mixer off of amazon. The thing is a hunk of steel with an electric motor and like two gears so I trust if it's fixed it's as good as new. I much prefer them to the flip top variety because you don't need to worry about clearance under cabinets.

Depending on the color, the 5 quart is just $200 on amazon.
