Huh. Yeah that's the same remote and hub I have and it definitely won't control rf. Are your fans also controlled by a wall switch like these Lutron Maesto ones?

They're pretty old school but since it uses ir it would definitely explain how your setup is working. But with the hub in the living room I don't see how it could control say a bedroom fan it can't physically see.
