As a fellow Wildland firefighter I might be able to give you some suggestions for the best knife type in my experience.

My favorite knife to carry on fire is a CRKT M60 SOTFB spearpoint. It is AUS8 steel with a full tang and an amazing sheath that can be worn on the belt or thigh.

This year I'm going to be carrying a buck frontiersman sometimes but will still go back to the m60 for most days.

In my experience for fire you need a knife that is a good size (4.5 inches and up) and is easy and fast to take out of the sheath. For fire you need to be able to take the knife out and return it to the sheath one handed fast, so tight leather sheaths are no good.

Budget: any larger Mora knife they are all good.

High end: Fallkniven F1, S1, or A1

Something in between and readily available: Any synthetic sheath buck knife like the ergohunter or omnihunter.

do NOT get, knives that fall out of the sheath when not strapped in because you will forget to do up the straps/snaps.

do NOT get tanto tip knives because you will be slicing and push cutting not stabbing.

That about covers it, for fire the main concern is a good sheath and a simple knife.
