The speaker I have is about 10 inches wide, but it does plug in instead of using a battery. It has “retro” styling. I auditioned it both at the store and at home, and I was happy with the sound. It’s the Marshall Acton.

alright, well, the speakers you linked to are reputedly pretty good for the money, and they are 2 separate speakers, so I think that's one of your better options in the budget. I was going to suggest something like this if you wanted a truly one piece design, and were willing to sacrifice stereo separation for aesthetics, but apparently, the exchange rate does you no favors and that is about as expensive over there in pounds as it is here in dollars.
Go with your first instinct f you don't need other connections and its just for casual listening in a compromised environment like a kitchen.
