A lot wrong here. The 3 Rs are Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle in that order. In the UK McDonalds(Where refills aren’t free)was able to cut down on the total amount of lids and straws used because they offered those shitty paper straws instead of the plastic ones. It was a total win for everybody(Shithead McDonald’s Bottomline, Waste Management, the oceans, those concerned with climate change, wildlife,..) except those who need a plastic straw due to a disability that requires a plastic straw.
There are also reusable plastic straws. I think the first commercially produced straws were plastic and reusable. They are typically 1MM instead of the useless 0.25 or 0.5MM. All hospitals I have ever visited in SoCal have them. They look like this:

Anybody who says we can live without a disabled person has obvious issues and should be excluded from the debate. I personally don’t know how we can fix this issue(Disabled Individuals Who Need A Plastic Straw At Point of Purchase). In theory a situation where the disabled person brings their straw out with them like they do a wallet or belt. If they need a plastic straw they could also ask at the register. BUT that might be an undue burden to place on the disabled.
