Have you played the Metro Series? Both Metro:2033 and Metro: Last light are some of my favorite single player FPS experiences of all time, incredibly immersive and great atmosphere throughout. Basically a post apocalyptic survival shooter with some horror elements, it tells a story of a world destroyed by nuclear fire, where the inhabitants are forced to live underground in a metro system of Russia. 10/10.
I'd recommend playing on Ranger mode, which takes away many of the hud elements but makes the game much more immersive. You die a lot quicker, but the enemies die a lot quicker as well, making the firefights feel quick and brutal.
If you can find it get the "redux bundle" for both games at a cheaper price, like this here
