9. My grandfather is the wonderful father in my life. When he saw that my parents were not doing what they needed to in regards to keeping my brother and I safe, he told my grandmother that she needed to get custody of us. He never wanted kids, and didn't have any biological kids of his own, and after finishing up with my mother and aunts, he had told her that he would never raise another child. He didn't have to give us the life that he did, and he works his ass off even now to help me out with my two boys. He stepped up to be a father figure to my son when my husband was not doing what he should as a father. He even took on a father roll for my husband, who didn't grow up with a father either. He runs heavy equipment, and taught me how to run a backhoe by the time I was 12 years old. That was really long.

Your little one sounds a lot like what we are going through with one of our twins. She has very bad gas problems and I was at the breaking point where I would try anything to soothe her. After talking to my pediatrican (who is very old school), this is what we are doing below for her gas and both babies reflux (and projectile vomiting). I won't say it solved her gas completely, but it did help her sleep if you want to try it.

• After 8pm, we have been (on our pediatrician's recommendation) putting rice cereal (1 tsp per 2 oz) in their bottles. She said it is safe, and they even do it for babies in the NICU. She said the particulate helps keep the liquid heavy so it doesn't spit up as much. Less spit up = less acid in their throat causing pain. Our twins are 4 weeks old. It also has the side effect of helping them sleep a little longer.
  
  
• The gassy twin farts a lot, and cries every time she does. I've found putting a pea-sized amount of the Maximum Strength Desitin on a baby wipe, and then dabbing it right on her anus.. helps. Because when she farts it doesn't chafe her that way.

  And good for you for getting medication. You are a responsible parent that loves your child. There are some people who wrongly believe PPD is something the power of positive thinking can fix. They are wrong. It's a biophysical condition. I hope you find the solutions to her gassiness that you seek, or at least it gets a little better. Good luck.
