Two great options in that price range are this MSI Computer C 9S7-16J622-047 laptop and this Acer Aspire E 15 gaming laptop.. The Asus has a better processor and build quality than the Acer . I would recommend you go for the Acer though as those games you mentioned wont really utilize all the power of the Asus.. Further more, the Acer has an SSD which provides some much needed speed... It also has a better screen resolution and the ideal 1080 resolution for you. .. The Acer also has an excellent battery life, something I think you will do very well with, especially when travelling.

you should definitely check out this MSI CX62 6QD-047US then

I have an MSI CX62 6QD Gaming Laptop with a keyboard that most of the keys no longer work and a missing period key on the number pad, as well as a CD Drive that still works as far as I know (will be tested before I sell it) but needs to be manually opened with a pin. Other than those problems, it works just fine with a USB keyboard that I've been using since the problem showed up.

I've seen it used for 450 on eBay, but that's obviously in standard used condition, so how much should I be looking to sell mine for?

Never buy an Alienware. They are super overpriced.

You want an MSI or Asus.

Higher price, more power, bulkier.

Slim but weaker. Cheaper.

$650 is pretty low for gaming on a laptop.

Try this. Getting closer to the same experience is going to cost you a lot more.

I'm torn atm, I'm looking at MSI CX62( https://www.amazon.com/MSI-CX62-6QD-047US-PORTABLE-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01AC40O8G) vs Dell (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=psdc_565108_t2_B01AC40O8G)

I would rather the msi over Dell because I'm not a Dell fan, but does anyone have any insight into screens/batteries etc? Obviously the Dell has a much superior GPU and for only 80$more that's why I'm considering it!

Thanks.

Glad to help!

After writing that comment, I took a quick look around Amazon to find an example of what I'm talking about, and this MSI laptop fits the bill pretty nicely at your price range. The only downside is going to be that it's going to be a bit heavier than the laptop you were looking at, its processor is going be be slightly slower than its desktop counterpart, and it doesn't have a solid-state drive (which I normally recommend for media production PCs), but the latter can be easily remedied down the road. Overall: This sort of machine is what you'll be looking for, especially if you want to move up to more complicated edits and motion graphics integration with your videos as your work progresses.

If you are ok with used I would go with thisLenovo Y50 because it comes with ntel Quad-Core i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz (up to 3.60 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology)(which is better the recommended),
16GB RAM DDR3(which is the recommended), 1TB HDD+8GB SSD Hybrid SSHD Drive(which will provide better loading and booting speed), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB Dedicated Graphics(which just below the recommended), 15.6" 1080P (1920x1080) Non-touch IPS Display, Matte(which can get you to "high setting" when it is combined with the GTX 960m).

If you don't want to go the used route, then you can get thisMSI CX62 since it comes with Processor: Intel Core i5-6300HQ Quad Core Processor (2.3-3.2GHz)
RAM: 8GB DDR4 2133MHz | Hard Drive: 1TB (5400RPM)
Optical Drive: SuperMulti DVD | Operating System: Windows 10
Graphics Card: NVIDIA Geforce 940MX 2G DDR3 | Display: 15.6" HD Non Glare eDP 1366x768 (which should allow you to play on medium with no problem).
