I can vouch for these, I prefer them to the stock 600 cable.

Yup, iPhone works! Might not get loud enough, but even a $60 Fiio A3 will solve that.

Do you have an iPhone 6/6S? If so, they have excellent headphone outputs, cleaner than many "audiophile" DACs (all the more reason it's tragic that they ditched the headphone jack). If that's your main source of listening, go for an amp first (for volume headroom), and if you need a DAC at all, it'd be if your computer output is shitty. iPad and iPhone sound as good as my AK120ii as a line source.

You'll also probably want a shorter cable, terminated in 3.5mm. I have this cable, it's dirt-cheap and shockingly well-made (unless you need it to fit through a case).

The cable is actually red, but its braided black. You can hardly see the red though.

Thanks for the response!

> FLAC bitrate should be fine at 24/96kHz, it really depends on how the file was ripped. But that should be fine. Keep in mind, most FLAC are ripped from CDs, which have a resolution of 16/44.1kHz. Some would argue that this is enough, but that's an argument for another time/place.

So if I want the best experience, look for FLAC rips from Vinyl, or official high fi releases?

>Amp = yes, very important.

So amps are very important. Got it! I checked out the buyer's guide, but it really just lists price points and general specs I can find on websites and stuff. Is that because ANY of those are recommended as quality, working parts? I'd want a portable AMP I can take outside with me. I don't need a desktop one because my sound card has a built in headphone AMP already. Any suggestions / price range on where to start?

>Cables don't matter. Just use common sense. If you want them for cheap, learn to solder and make your own.

Glad to see that idea confirmed by many of you, thanks!! Any brand you feel is quality? I ordered NewFantasia Cable For Sennheiser HD650, 1.2meters/4feet so I have some portability. I guess I'll find out if they're quality or not when they come in.

I haven't had any problems with NewFantasia cables.

What source do you use for walking around with HD600s?

Edit: cable looks to be this one

u/NFTOxaile · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

There are many different cables for the 660s, the same cable fits into all 600 series headphones. If you're good a soldering, you can also make cables as long as you want for very cheap.

Just got my HD650, love it. Little clampy but I'm using the box it came in and a book to stretch it out when I'm not using it..
The Cord is too long though. Fairly new here, so not sure if wire quality matters for sound. Would this be good? https://www.amazon.com/3-9ft-Replacement-upgrade-Sennheiser-headphone/dp/B01D76YYKA/ref=pd_sim_267_8?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01D76YYKA&pd_rd_r=HJY6WXAKTD9FFYYRZEZT&pd_rd_w=AlhtH&pd_rd_wg=LbSZR&refRID=HJY6WXAKTD9FFYYRZEZT&th=1

Sorry, I didn’t see it was a 6.3mm. Here’s a 3.5mm cable
