One thing to bear in mind - I strongly avoid gifting flashlights which can run on AA batteries. Those lights all have pretty high power demands, which means they need to be run from the 14500 or a high-drain AA like an Eneloop rechargeable or Energizer Ultimate Lithium. Even though they'll also fit a normal alkaline cell, that should be reserved for absolute emergencies because it's abusive to the cell and will likely leak and damage the light.

I'm happy to buy myself lights like that, because I know what batteries to use. But I know if I gave one to my brother it'd end up running on alkalines at some point. And he'd probably end up dissatisfied with the performance.

This is slightly less of an issue with wide-input-voltage lights like those, since the extra performance on 14500 isn't subtle and maybe most people won't use alkalines after all. It's a much bigger concern on 1.5v-only AA lights. But still, I try to only gift lights that can't physically accommodate a battery they shouldn't be used with - usually I recommend stuff running on either 18650 or integrated cells, so there's no confusion. It's hard to beat a TIP CRI for getting people interested in fancy flashlights.
