Hi Microsoft specifically recommends these adapters:
USB 3.0 Type C to HDMI (with Thunderbolt 3 support):

I think the headset cables are long enough to reach to the other side of the laptop to plug into the USB 3.0 A port - but a 3-foot USB 3.0 extension cord would be OK to use to optimize cable management. Keeping the adapters simple is probably a good bet as USB-type-C compatibility is ironed out. I recommend staying away from cheap, off-brand multi-function usb-type-C hubs that have hdmi+ethernet+usb ports all-in-one.
It was the cable that was the issue. But the replacement their support sent me that works wasn't the same type as the one you order from them.
Bad: long cable I got here: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0727QQLV2/
Good: tiny adapter cable (like 6 inches total). Had to supply own HDMI cable to connect to TV.
I didn't try the new one on a 4k TV cause I lost my access to one, but it worked great at 1080. I played Witcher 3 at 60 FPS / 60 Hz without the white dots, and without the image ever cutting off.
I'd get the MS one if I could go back in time, to be fully future-proof. Especially if you have a TV > 60 Hz, or want to do VR.
This one works for me: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0727QQLV2
TB3 to usb and HDMI will work.
Edit: Sorry, that was useless. Here’s some info. Looks like the Apple one is a
lock for sure.https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/7t2y3k/imac_pro_vr_which_tb3_to_hdmi_adapter_works/?st=JGPUD4AX&sh=e62608b0
Edit 2: Some mixed reviews on the Apple. Many say need 60 hz, in which case this is verified working by several people.

FWIW, I bought and tried out the Plugable USB-c to HDMI adapter in your Recommended Products for #5 and it never worked out. Not sure if it was the monitor (Dell U2410) or the adapter. The MS branded adapter works flawlessly with the same display.
Issues were varied - total lack of signal, tinted green or magenta display, sparkling throughout the screen, etc. I worked with a product rep, he had me run some diagnostics and sent out a replacement product. Neither solved my issues.
Another comment is that the Surface Dock caused me intermittent loss of signal with external display while under heavy gaming load. I've seen multiple users asking how to fix it on this subreddit, but am not aware of any foolproof solutions. I've since switched to the MS USB-c to HDMI adapter with a separate USB 3.0 hub + ethernet, to give me the ability to attach the SB2 AC adapter and supply more power than the dock could.
These cables have been said to work with the Dell XPS 15 9560: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Thunderbolt-Supports-Displays-3840x2160/dp/B0727QQLV2/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1524803265&sr=8-2-spons.

Apparently you need an active cable or adapter and not a passive one to output 4k 60Hz if you're using usb-c to hdmi
As others have said, the HDMI port is out if you want to do 4K60 over HDMI. You need a USB-C to HDMI active adapter. There are dozens of passive cables that will convert to HDMI, but they will not work. I like Plugable's stuff, so here's a link to their adapter that will do the trick, but there are others. https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Thunderbolt-Supports-Displays-3840x2160/dp/B0727QQLV2/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1524803265&sr=8-2-spons
This one supports 4k 60hz and supports SB2.
Unfortunately the one i received was DOA, but support were great and they sent me out a replacement immediately, been overseas though so have not been able to use it yet.
