For the most part and at this level, they are all mostly interchangeable. You can find one at most online or big box retailers (amazon, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc.). Here's one from RCA for reference:

I have a few different ones. I've got two of these and they are pretty good and I've got one of these and both types seem to work fine. I also have a pelican powered brand of S-video switch but I can't seem to find any info on whether they are available anymore. Oh and I have one of these too and they are pretty good as they have both S-video and component connections.

Are you looking for something like this but with composite/vga/hdmi/dvi?

here's the one I use.

haven't ever noticed any interference or noise. never compared it to any other switch though.

I wouldn't suggest either option which are, by the way, technically splitters. What you want is an RCA selector - there are many cheap ones on Amazon such as this one - don't be concerned by the yellow or the s-video, just plug in to the red and white RCAs

Just a suggestion for the future, especially if you're not able to fix your problem and get a new monitor: get one with s-video inputs, and pick up a couple of s-video cables for your SNES and N64. The clarity they provide over composite is totally worth it. Depending on what kind of switcher you have currently, you may need to get a new/different one. But they're not all that expensive.

yes, here is what you want. Just ingore the colors on the cables and hook up both L to one splitter, both R to the other, and then hook each splitter into the corresponding input on your speakers.

Alternatively another solution is an RCA switch like this one, it will make it easier to add more inputs later on and would be a better solution if you leave both devices on and only want to hear audio from one.
