I use the skip hop mainframe diaper bag backpack and I love it. I highly recommend a backpack, period. I started with a tote and it was not convenient.
I also wanted something that didn’t look too utilitarian and this one fits that for me without being totally overpriced. I love how much room is inside and I love having the pockets on the outside to put stuff in quickly. The side pockets hold 2 bottles each and I’d put the empty bottles there and a giant 40oz thermos of hot water in the main compartment with formula containers. There was plenty of room for formula feeding two and for everything else. My twins are 18 months old now and there’s enough room for clothes, shoes, books and toys, snacks, water, and whatever else might need to come with us. This was definitely one of my favorite purchases and I think it will last us many years.
Edit: I also like to use small zipper bags inside the main compartment to keep some things separate. I can pull out one small bag to get what I need without having to root through everything. Especially helpful with diapers+wipes, “medical” things like sunscreen, Tylenol, hand sanitizer, and a bag for small toys, or similar.
