Hi /u/sanityrepresent - I built a rig around the pistol grip handheld setup seen here: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-f3hbYYV_y8o/VHDp77GMxoI/AAAAAAAAJF8/xnHRvNcCm5o/w724-h543-no/P1020575.JPG
By adding a couple of rails, a cold shoe extender and a shoulder pad, I was able to provide mounting points for a mic, a ring light and, when I can afford it, a rail mounted battery pack.
Here's what the rig looks like: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-K2Z7iz5-bRw/VHqL3cK9OrI/AAAAAAAAJH4/OYrYg70RQ0E/w724-h543-no/P1020685.JPG
Here's the parts list:
With the latest firmware upgrades and this rig, the BMPCC is a real joy to shoot with. And when I want to go back to putting the camera in a jacket pocket, I can.
Good luck!
Ok so recently me and my friends parted out a shoulder rig and assembled it ourselves for around $250. We bought all small rig branded parts off amazon, except for the rods (cowbody studio) and shoulder rest (some chinese brand).
Heres a few links to get you started
Z BracketThis is really use full if you want to use the dslr's screen as it places the camera in front of your face instead of inline with your shoulder.
mounting plate You may want to shop around on this one, as some people have had problems putting quick release plates on it. We salvaged an old threaded screw/nob from a tripod and ran it through the bottom so it works great for us.
Handles We really like these handles. All the small rig stuff is metal, and the nobs are metal as well. All of the cheap rigs used plastic, like the one you pictured. The nobs can be pulled and re positioned without changing their tension so that they arn't ever in the way and crank down nicely with no play. I have no complaints about them.
Something you should consider is what to do for counter weights. Most of them online are ridiculously expensive for what they are. We ended up epoxying 4 weights from an ankle weight workout set together and zip tying it to the back of our rig. It sounds very ghetto, but with alittle finesse and paint. It looks very professional and like it should be there. This actually worked out for the better too, as we were able to experiment to see how much weight we actually needed to balance it properly.
/u/artexam - I built a rig around the BMPCC and an adjustable ring light for run and gun, as seen [here] (https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMuBPH1R-leziYfdgJPmokn_TSVgC7dLY3r3WZRzIQFs92CHGwGgp_HfLZlmrBvFQ/photo/AF1QipM5NK4dlNqJx-OiiOlJfgaHJNHMzxT8O8OygRa_?key=dDNPSTE3eWdlNGhJVVhNRnM2eXhjdHRSeTBCS1Nn).
By adding a couple of rails, a pistol grip, a cold shoe, a cold shoe extender and a shoulder pad, I was able to provide mounting points for the ring light plus a mic.
Here is the parts list for my rig [Referral Links]:
I also recommend an [$18.90 ILED NPF-Series Battery Plate Adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/ILED-Battery-Adapter-BMPCC-HDV-Z96/dp/B00WLEKQS4//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) and a couple of [inexpensive Sony NP-F batteries] (https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Replacement-NP-F550-Digital-Battery/dp/B0007Q9PWQ//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) (the same batteries the ring light uses) to overcome the BMPCC's battery challenge.
I mount my external battery on the bottom of the pistol grip, as seen [here] (https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMTKgMb71u8wDzV83IDa6fV1EUT0MfaFxrH8Xl9V1S0QO4S53bz75OLB9v1aGGJRw/photo/AF1QipN88UUZ2NlXuOAAx9R3X-EvFCW2pTRpfTV2hPOt?key=dS1FQkJYWGNxcFZ2WkZBaGtRdTBVMTJmOWEyWV9n). If you don't have a pistol grip you can remove the cold shoe and screw it into the 1/4-20" threaded hole on top of the camera.
With the latest firmware upgrades and this rig, the BMPCC is a real joy to shoot with. And when I want to go back to putting the camera in a jacket pocket, I can.
Hope this is helpful and good luck with getting your BMPCC set up for run and gun!
>under ~$200
Doesn't exist. Also, if it does, I wouldn't trust your $1700+ gear on it.
I would just get some 15mm rods and a plate and a counter wight with some handles.
Here just buy most everything here and that would be cheaper than buying a rig already put together and it will be more flexible too. Just screw the plate into the rod risers or maybe get this.
Edit: there might be something out there, but there isn't much of any quality. If you want something very simple but useful, get this I have it and I love it, but it won't replace a real 15mm rail system (which you can add to with accessories like better audio and a follow focus).
