> Semantics.

The person who directed the prequels could have taken 2 seconds to listen to what Luke says.

And you wouldn't say "The World War" - you say "World Wars" or "WW I/II."

>It is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Whether or not he ever used one doesn't change that fact. Darth Vader also uses a lightsaber despite being a Sith.

The Emperor mockingly calls it a Jedi weapon.

And your point about Darth Vader makes my case stronger - the Emperor has no respect for Vader.

It would have been cool to see Yoda vs. The Emperor go at it like Voldermort vs. Dumbledore but Lucas is too stupid and too childish so he had to have Yoda and the Emperor fight with lightsabers like they were Sonic the Hedgehog.

(Funnily enough I don't consider Yoda using the lightsaber as a contradiction - but Palpatine using it IS a contradiction)

>It's not like Obi-Wan ever had a very healthy relationship with the truth.

This is what retconning is - Obi-Wan being turned into a liar.

But he never said he lied about that and Owen Lars even implies in ANH what Obi-Wan said was true.

>Maybe because he didn't want it going to his head like it did with Anakin?

Or because it doesn't exist and it's full of shit?

>Yoda trained him as a youngling.

This is Lucas' dumb ass excuse when he realized he fucked up and it was enough to satiate the idiots.

Problem: Obi-Wan says Yoda was "the Jedi master who instructed me." Clearly stated he was his only master.

>"The Jedi who trained me when I was a kid, before I was assigned a new master who died, after which Yoda continued playing the role of my mentor." Again, semantics.

I think an easier thing would be for Lucas to spend 2 hours to actually watch The Empire Strikes Back and to build from there. But nah, if he did that, that means he wouldn't get to put all the cool CGI bullshit and toy commercials in the movies! He may actually have to have them connect with each other! After all, if he watched The Empire Strikes Back then HE'D KNOW BOBA FETT ISN'T A CLONE OF A DUDE WITH A KIWI ACCENT!

But if Lucas knew and respected that then how else would he be able to sell Jango Fett merchandise?

Who cares about silly things like making sure the continuity with The Empire Strikes Back works? We got GameCube games to sell baby!

>Once again, you fail to grasp what the actual discussion is about. I'll say it once more: I DON'T GIVE A SINGLE FUCK WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE PREQUELS. It has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING.

A movie being bad doesn't mean it's not canon.

Leia being Luke's sister was the dumbest thing ever, but it doesn't contradict anything.

>That would be called an homage,

HOMAGE TO STORMTROOPERS!

Bingo!

Now you're finally starting to get it.

See? The Apprentice is learning. Soon you will have a full mastery of the obvious!

>There are various motivations for applying retroactive continuity, including:

>To accommodate desired aspects of sequels or derivative works which would otherwise be ruled out;
>To correct and overcome errors or problems identified in the prior work since its publication;
>To change how the prior work should be interpreted;
>To match reality, when assumptions or projections of the future are later proven wrong.[Note 1]

To accommodate desired aspects of sequels

To accommodate desired aspects of SEQUELS

>Retroactive continuity, or retcon for short,[1][2] is a literary device in which established facts in a fictional work are adjusted, ignored or contradicted by a subsequently published work otherwise intended to maintain continuity with the former

Key sentence: INTENDED TO MAINTAIN CONTINUITY. The Prequels are NOT trying to maintain continuity!!!!! They completely contradict it!!!!!

>Retcons do not contradict previously established facts but instead fill in missing background details, usually to support current plot points.

>This is a common practice in horror films, which may end with the death of a monster that goes on to appear in one or more sequels

SEQUELS!!!!!!!

tauerland BTFO by his own source!

Hell, your own source says what Lucas was doing WASN'T retconning!

>Retconning also differs from direct revision. For example, when George Lucas re-edited the original Star Wars trilogy, he made changes directly to the source material, rather than introducing new source material that contradicted the contents of previous material.

LMAO!!!!!!!

Im guessing its a bounty hunter rehash to coincide with the rumored movie slated to release at some point.
