On top I have this big board with a 1-inch-square grid that I can stick pins in and iron on. It's from my grandma, so I'm not sure what it's called or whether they're still sold. Before she gave it to me, I was thinking about buying something like this.

I lived in Sauv 2 years ago but I'm pretty sure the furniture is the same in all the dorms. Yes the beds can be raised and lowered a bit but if you want a good lift on it you should get some bed risers cheap ones
the desks don't have locking drawers or anything but you can get a laptop lock with a steel cord that can wrap around the back of the desk to secure it.
