Some quick suggestions:

- If your SO doesn't have them yet, get her some sleep nursing bras and some reusable nursing pads. I leaked for like 6 months post partum without these things.

- Watch these videos as a help to determine when baby is swallowing, specifically the 'good drinking' and 'nibbling' ones. Visit /r/breastfeeding with any questions you or she might have. Remember that food is not the only reason babies suck. Try a pacifier if mom needs a break. That one doesn't work? Try a different one. Kids get strangely picky about shape. Sometimes letting baby suck on your pinky works, too.

- Know that the way to tell whether a baby is getting enough milk is by weight gain and number of wet/dirty diapers. At 5 days, you should see 5-6 wet diapers a day. Some babies can go days without a dirty diaper and be fine (my second regularly went a WEEK). See if there's a breastfeeding support group in your area. Hook your SO up. I attended one weekly and it was a godsend. They weighed my baby, answered my questions, and provided community.

- Know that sometimes babies just cry. It sucks a lot, but it's also true. Sometimes baby wearing or a swing help, sometimes not. You should have a check-up soon - talk to your ped about it and see what they say. They'll probably ask you about amount of spit-up, etc.

- But also, read about and use the 5S's. MAGIC. Swinging (pretty hard, actually) is magic. Swaddling is magic. White noise is fucking BLACK MAGIC. There are some videos of how well they work.
