Instead of a traditional night light you could use a GroClock as part of sleep training.
The little one presses a button to send the sun to bed and wake up the star. Set a time for the sun to come up and educate your kid that that’s when they can get up.
Wrap some kind of bed time story around the whole sequence and you’ve got a nice way of keeping the Tigray in there bed!
Hope this helps...

Our situation was a bit different - 2yo wouldn’t go to bed at bedtime and then woke around 4.30am and got up.

We got him one of these: The Gro Company Gro-Clock Sleep Trainer https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002APJCNE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Yde9BbDP6G7VC

Since the first night we got it he’s gone to bed without argument and stayed in bed until the sun came up on the clock. It was incredible.

Your first tip makes me think of this. My wife and I were considering ordering it in a few months, when our little one is a bit older.

I could be wrong, but I think this is the one a lot of people use.

So the suggestions I'm going to make are assuming this is a behavioural issue and not a medical problem with his sleep. Have you tried the sleep clocks? They are a visual reminder that it is time to stay in bed. I'll post a link to the one we have. It's yellow with a sun during the day and blue with stars at night. The stars count down as the night goes on so they can see how long they have left and then it reverts to the sun when it's time to get up. Weighted blanket? If he's having issues settling himself back down, a weighted blanket might help him stay sleep in the first place. I reckon a lot of kids (and adults) would benefit from heavier materials at night. Modern materials are so lightweight and I think it causes a few issues compared to when we were younger.

What discipline have you tried? Do you make him clear up at least some of the mess? I've got two 4yo's who try this kind of thing occasionally. I say to them, "you don't have to sleep, you do have up stay in bed" and then I spend some time sending them back to bed. Since he's not waking you up when he gets up, I would get a monitor with movement detection that will wake you up. It'll help with the reinforcement that getting up is not good behaviour.
