For chunkier babies, Thirsties offers a good, flexible diaper cover in various sizes. I use covers and OsoCozy prefolds and have found that they work better for my babies than pockets. Sometimes flats are a better option than prefolds because you can customize the fold more to avoid some leaks. Totally up to your preference though.
Just note that with prefolds and flats, you'll need to wash them several times prior to using them to get maximum absorbency. Here's how to prepare prefolds/flats.
The thirties covers we're cheap and easy to use (snaps are good for older and velcro for younger as older kids can pull them off but were over 20 lbs and still fit these ones).
