Of course. The key thing is the intervalometer. Some cameras have them built in but usually don't have very much versatility. I bought this one. I had the current top selling one on amazon that was about $3 cheaper but it broke half way through a 2 week road trip, so I missed out on a bunch of shooting opportunities there. It is also necessary to have a tripod or something to hold the camera in place. I bought a pretty nice carbon fiber one to help lighten my load backpacking but any tripod will work.

This video was my first attempt at capturing timelapses but I have been into photography for quite a while now. I have a Nikon d3300, which is a pretty entry level dslr but works well enough for me. Star photography has been a big passion of mine for the past few years, so the transition into capturing a timelapse of stars was pretty simple. If your specifically interested in star timelapses I would suggest getting a dslr, Full frames work the best for star photography but cost A LOT more. I managed to take this with a pretty cheap cropped frame. Theres plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to photograph stars, so start there if you're not familiar with that.

I'm kinda rambling but if you have any specific questions ask away.
