I don't know much about custom keyboards.

You can buy keycap sets from several places. I'll list a couple below.

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pbt+keycaps

https://pimpmykeyboard.com/

I have personally bought from PimpMyKeyboard and mechanical keyboards.com. Had a pleasant experience with both.

Edit: The vortex 75% is a nice board and comes with colorful keycaps out of the box. Might be something you would like.

It's a VORTEX 75% with cherry mx browns and its super nice. I bought a second one to use at work. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071J5WTT6

I personally liked the extra large Escape and Delete keys, which I know for some people may not be ideal since it makes swapping them more challenging, so just keep that in mind if you like to customize. That said, there are other boards with the same layout but regular sized keys, so the function and numerical rows aren't staggered, rather perfectly aligned.

Here is the link where link for the Race 3 on [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Vortexgear-Mx-Brown-Aluminium/dp/B071J5WTT6/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Vortex+Race+3+Mechanical+Keyboard&qid=1569037263&s=gateway&sr=8-3)

Blue ($140)
Brown ($140)
Clear ($150)

So, about a week ago, I posted my black widow, which is my first ever mech. I'm wanting a new board, but one confounding factor is that I use an Apple computer, and I'd love one with the cmd and option keys, instead of needing to translate in my head that the win key is this, etc.

Basically, if I'm going to drop the money for a better board, I don't want to "make do" with it.

Browsing amazon, I came across this guy:

https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-75-Keycaps-Mx-Brown-Aluminium/dp/B071J5WTT6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1503927894&sr=8-2&keywords=KBT

The pros, it's smaller, which I'm definitely into. It also seems to come with optional apple-specific keys. I thought at first that it would just be a matter of changing a few keycaps and voila, perfect new keeb for my mac.

However, it looks like I'd have to update the firmware on a windows computer to make this happen. Is changing it to a mac layout really a complicated process? Some of the amazon reviews also seem to indicate that it's super hard to actually change these keycaps, so I'm hesitant.

Does anybody have experience with this board, especially using it with a mac?

I'd also be interested in other 75% or even 60% boards that might work. I'm not married to having the F1, F2, F3 etc type keys, but I would like to have arrow keys if that makes sense.

Sorry if long winded, I've been reading wikis, and in some ways all the information seems like I'm trying to drink water out of a firehose, and I don't see a lot about apple specific issues. Thanks all!

Thanks for all your help everyone, I've narrowed it down to these two keyboards:

https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Keycaps-Cherry-Mx-Clear/dp/B00OFM6F80/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1500166311&sr=8-6&keywords=kbc+poker

https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-75-Keycaps-Mx-Brown-Aluminium/dp/B071J5WTT6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1500166113&sr=1-1&keywords=vortex+race+3

Aesthetically I really like the race 3. However I hear nothing but great things about the poker III. Anyone with a race 3 or a poker 3 have any input? The lack of tilde/arrow keys won't bother me because I can program it to a separate layer. Definitely sold on the brown or clear keys, I tried them both and liked them over anything else. I have strong hands so the clears were pretty nice.

It is FN+M for Mac, and FN+L for Linux, and FN+W for windows. Someone kindly scanned the manual into the Amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-75-Keycaps-Mx-Brown-Aluminium/dp/B071J5WTT6/

Thanks this is quite informative. Couldn't you get a keyboard like Glorious GMMK and then replace the keycaps, switches, and layout as well? From what I understand when you build your own, it's difficult to have varied led options right? It's unfortunate because I like both styles and want to switch between them.

Looking at a couple of these brands like Leopold and Vortex, these customizable keyboards seem really expensive (https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Vortexgear-Mx-Brown-Aluminium/dp/B071J5WTT6/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1543147189&sr=1-4&keywords=vortex+60%25+keyboard). Is this normal? Lol.

For $150 you can get the Vortex Race 3 which has macro and rebind built in and almost as many keys as a tenkeyless, but it's almost as narrow as a 60%. I think this layout is normally called a 75%?

https://smile.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Vortexgear-Mx-Brown-Aluminium/dp/B071J5WTT6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1

You can get it with browns, clears, or blues.

It has thick PBT keycaps and feels really nice. My only serious complaint is the top row is almost impossible to find replacement caps with the right labels.

No backlight though.

You can look at Tada68 which is 65% or if you want something larger you can try Vortexgear New 75
