which otoscope are you using ?

I recommend that every student/resident have their own tools. Yes yes I know you hardly use them but its not about how often you use them but being proficient in your exam skills when you need them. I would recommend two sets

  1. Welch Allyn pocketscope set, which you should be able to find on eBay for $200-300

    or

  2. Welch allyn 3.5V Lithium set which is more expensive

    The reason I recommend the first set is because

    1)Lightweight

    2)Uses standard AA batteries (mine have lithium batteries)

    3)The otoscope has the traditional single lens, that lets you clear the ear for wax and doesn't require any focusing
