Hello fantasy redditors! My new novel, "The Pen is Mightier", an homage/satire/love-letter to A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones, internet fandom, and George R. R. Martin himself, is published and for sale. I'm proud to say that reddit (more specifically, a fictional subreddit that has a lot in common with r/fantasy, r/ASOIAF and r/GameofThrones) plays a very prominent role in my book.

Here's the back cover blurb:

College student Sedrick Weir is the biggest fan of the brutal fantasy epic, 'Those Accursed Chronicles'. Its author, Paul Breston, has created a unique series of novels rife with debauchery and betrayal, in which no character is safe.

Through a miraculous fluke, Sed is transported into the mythic world he loves so much. When he returns to his own world, he must convince Paul that his imagined realm actually exists. And if that world is real, can Paul keep killing people who are no longer merely fictional? Must Sed's favorite characters really have to die?

Both satire and homage, 'The Pen is Mightier' is a love-letter to one of the most popular series and television programs in the fantasy genre.

(end blurb)

For any John Scalzi fans, this book is kind of like "Red Shirts", except its targets in loving mockery are A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones rather than Star Trek. In all seriousness, this novel was written for serious fans of fantasy novels and ASOIAF in particular. It was written for those of you who, like me, love a particular fantasy series so damn much that you spend a lot of your free time poring over plot theories (even the tinfoil variety!), casting announcements (if you're lucky enough to have an adaptation), hints from author/producers/cast, and general minutiae from the series. It's for those of you who have the maps of whatever world you love on your wall, and when you happen to see a feature or a city that looks interesting, you google it (or have a searchbot find it in the book texts) to see if it's mentioned. It's for those of you that not only regularly check the wikis for your favorite series, but actually contribute to them.

"The Pen is Mightier" is my second novel. It's available as an ebook ($3.99) at Amazon here, and at Smashwords here. You can check other online retailers as well. The paperback ($14.99) is for sale at the Amazon link.

My first novel, an unrelated fantasy adventure called "Sailor of the Skysea", is for sale here.

Now back to work on #3.

TLDR: New fantasy-satire novel (The Pen is Mightier), homage/love-letter to fantasy novels and fans in general, and GRRM and his creations (and fans) in particular, is out.

The story opens with a beautiful woman running down the sidewalk of a quiet townhouse development barefoot with nothing on but a man’s ripped dress shirt screaming “He’s a murderer, He killed somebody.” The next scene takes us to how it all started a year earlier in a small suburban town just outside of Chicago with a seemingly happily married couple Paul and Jenny Sanford with two kids. She’s a very pretty woman but very much overweight. Being a star high school and college athlete Paul has always been popular with women including; cheerleaders, athletes, model types etc and Jenny was none of those. After college when he didn’t make it into the pros he had to go into the real world and make a living and then Jenny got pregnant. He does care for her and figured she’d make a good mother so he married her. He always had the security of knowing that she was not the outgoing type and would be home taking care of the house and kids. Also it doesn’t hurt that during school when all the cool kids were partying she was studying which is why she’s now an upper level manager at a real estate development company and the main breadwinner of the house. Paul comes and goes as he pleases and dates several women on the side. Although he is not very romantically attentive to Jenny he does the right things at the right time to keep her happy and is respectful enough to keep things discreet. When Paul gives Jenny a membership to a local fitness club he doesn’t expect that she will take to fitness like a fish to water and become a physically fit sexual dynamo and the object of every man’s desire. When he’s unable to handle her new sexuality Paul looses control and becomes overly jealous, starts drinking excessively and starting fights with every man he thinks is interested in her. From there it devolves into a twisted triangle of deception and murder.

Ooh, fun question. I loved Vitamin P, which is in KU.

In terms of published novels, Nervous by Zane and Pure Paradise by Allison Hobbs.

I just finished a super enlightening biography of Louisa Catherine Adams called Louisa, and now I'm reading Paul Beatty's The Sellout. It's amazing, intense and some of the most incisive, aggressively sarcastic prose I've ever read.

Ughhh, I've reallyyyy reallyyy wanted this as well as salt. for so long now but I'm trying really hard to budget better so it's been sitting pretty in the wishlist and I've been re-reading this instead.

u/MyAssTakesMastercard · 143 pointsr/WTF

In my area, it's "urban" romance.

Please, just click on the cover image and take a look at the preview of Daddy Long Stroke that Amazon has been kind enough to provide.

u/mystormyweather · 1 pointr/asexuality

I wrote a 4 book series where the main character happens to be ace. Through out the four books it shows a variety of different ace lifestyles, both males and females. Aromantic, Demi, grey, even a queer platonic (zucchini) relationship. Basically the spectrum. I know the cover is kind of sexual but that’s to also get attract from none ace readers as well.

>"Why god is Not Great" would be a better one to write

Yep, that is already a book too!
https://www.amazon.com/God-Not-Great-Religion-Everything/dp/B00G3ZR1OO

I didn't enjoy it much, writing was difficult to follow, pretentious. rather than communicating a message to us, he was attempting to show all the big words he knew. It got annoying.
But "The God delusion" by Dawkins is fantastic.

This doesn't involve robots in the arctic, but it involves a really weird (and funny) Antarctic expedition: [Pym] (http://www.amazon.com/Pym-A-Novel-Mat-Johnson/dp/0812981766/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409241507&sr=8-1&keywords=pym) by Mat Johnson. It's based on a Poe story and gets kind of surreal at times. Great book.
