YAY!

  • Well, Haim is one of my favorites right now. I love this whole album. Lots of fun tunes to dance to, and play really loudly in your car. Fleetwood Mac-ish indie pop. This is also their debut album.

  • Lorde dropped her debut album, and it took me a while, but I'm really digging the music. 400 Lux, White Teeth Teens, and Buzzcut Season are a few of my favorites. She grew up with her mother reading poetry to her, so that's how she ended up making her own music. Plus, she is only 16. Bravado is a good song that is not on the album.

  • Little Games by The Colorist is a fun little song. I enjoy playing this song from this new band.

  • Hot Knife by Fiona Apple, because it's Fiona Apple. Strange little tune, but it's catchy and fun. Fiona sounds awesome in her vocals.

  • Fireshrine by Purity Ring is a really strange, but interesting electronic song.

I have a pattern for unusual music choices, but I find they are some times the best treasures.

  • Siberia and it's Acoustic version are my favorite Lights albums. Her first album was pretty good, too, but I enjoy the acoustics from Siberia.

I'm sure I can dig up more, but that should be a good start. :)

With no hints to your tastes, here's a quick selection of some of my favorite albums with some basic descriptions. Please let me know if you listen to . like any of them.

Juno - This Is The Way It Goes and Goes
A totally underrated and unheralded Seattle band. Now defunct, they released two albums and a handful of singles, you could call them indie and most closely relate them perhaps to My Bloody Valentine. They create, what my friend called, walls of sound with four guitars all layered together. This is the band I love that no one knows about.

[DJ Shadow - Endtroducing] (http://www.amazon.com/Endtroducing-DJ-Shadow/dp/B000005DQR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330569288&sr=8-1)
Essential, this album defined the "trip hop" genre (think rap music without the rap) and is a Guinness world record holder for the first album created entirely from samples.

[Radiohead - Kid A] (http://www.amazon.com/Kid-Radiohead/dp/B00004XONN/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330569401&sr=8-1)
A classic.

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
An underlooked "backpack" rap album. CanOx is also now defunct but this album is a spectacular alternative rap album.

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
My favorite album of 2011 2010, Flying Lotus is trippy electronic music, I feel like this album is so next level we won't even appreciate it for a few years.

The Fucking Champs - IV
The band with the awesome name, The Fucking Champs are (mostly) instrumental prog metal with custom made 9 string guitars.

The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America
What if Bruce Springsteen made music for late twenty something party kids?

J Dilla - Donuts
Essential. Dilla is the producer's producer, this is a beat tape, 30 some odd snippets of beats and ideas.

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
LCD just broke up but their last album is, imo, their best. Percussion driven indie rock meets techno.

Lil' Wayne - Dedication 2
Say what you want about Lil' Wayne, Dedication 2 is the best thing he's ever done. This Wayne was untouchable.

Madvillain - Madvillainy
A rap album for the heads, this was two super powers coming together and is filled with so much imagination it sell makes my head explode.

Mogwai - Come on Die Young
Post-rock. A powerful moody record.

Say Anything - In Defense of the Genre
Punk is dead but Say Anything's 'In Defense of the Genre' is a spectacular eulogy.

XX - XX
My favorite album of the last ten years. It's dark, sparse, perfect rock.

Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
A whole album made about Illinois and it works.

Burial - Untrue
Deep dark drum and bass (dubstep, not Skrillex dubstep). When it's late and you're walking the empty streets home a little drunk this is the album you want to listen to.

If you don't have it, you need the album Heartthrob by Tegan and Sara. Beautiful music? Pretty twin ladies? Fun pop style? I just love them so much.

And I don't mind if I win or not, I just really love sharing this album. Here's a music video to preview their style if you haven't heard them before!

Edit: AND CONGRATULATIONS! I know I said so on IRC already but you are a strong lady whom I admire greatly for doing what you've done. I can barely function with my one niece here, and I get to give her back when I'm done playing!

It's more folk/melodeath, but Eluveitie's Luxtos is gorgeous! [Amazon link]

Kill Your Heroes popped up on an 8tracks playlist while I was cooking the other night, and I fell completely in love with it. It makes me wanna dance like a crazy person haha [Amazon link]

DUDE! That's awesome! You're going to love living on your own. The freedom to do whatever you want, be naked whenever and where ever. It's amazing!

I picked 2, first one Matthew Morrison because I love him on gLee and I want to see what he is like on his own and Empire of the Sun because I love one of their songs and I want to hear more!

Music is always a commentary on society.

u/Jenwith1N · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I would very much love this one if chosen. :)

I know usually everyone picks tropical far away places for dream vacations. I just want to go to Salem MA. My best friend moved there 4-5 years ago and I haven't seen her since. We keep trying to make plans to fly to each other, but something always comes up. So much is happening in her and her daughter's life right now and I hate missing it. We talk on the phone and internet when we can, but she's a single mom and works super long hours at two different jobs so normally we get 5 minutes on her walk to work. Boo.. We'll get together one of these days. My fiance actually mentioned that maybe next summer we could take a trip and either meet her somewhere she could get to or go to Boston and spend time with her too. :)

Thanks for the contest! <3 Airplane!

u/I-Love-Money · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Things that make me happy after a bad day: guitars, cats, money, silly lawn gnomes, and making ridiculous business plans with my best friend (current favorite: find a sea lion, dress them like a famous rapper, and charge admission).

The Happy Item =D

Also! Harry Potter is Life!

|name|Lana Del Rey|
|about artist|Elizabeth "Lizzy" Grant (born 21 June 1986), better known as Lana Del Rey, is a singer-songwriter from Lake Placid, New York, United States. Del Rey is known for embellishing her songs and music videos with an eerily nostalgic vibe heavy on Americana themes, including images of surfing, Coney Island, Frank Sinatra, and Marilyn Monroe. |about track|"Young and Beautiful" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey. Released on 23 April 2013, it was the first single from the The Great Gatsby: Music from Baz Luhrmann's Film soundtrack. 1. Month 4 of my pregnancy #3 (kid #2). I HAD to have spaghetti. I was on the verge tears. I think I actually did cry when my SO picked me up for lunch. Sad to be at the mercy of your food cravings.

  2. Born to Die is $0.99 over but I would really love to check out her album. Otherwise, there's more music in my "Jamz" list.

  3. Sometimes I Just can't wait but I'm working on that. =)

    Thanks for the contest!

Well as I can't buy any mp3s from Amazon due to regional restrictions, I can't prove it to you. But here's an example of a fairly recent release: Santigold, "Disparate Youth", only available as 256CBR through various e-shops:

  • 7digital
  • djshop.de

And I swear that, when I looked at it some 1 or 2 months ago on
Amazon, it too said "256k". Now it just doesn't say anything any more.

I'm pretty sure that the record label is to blame for this, that 256k is all these shops get. You can check other current releases, only available as 256k, is very common. So I'd be very suprised if Amazon would have gotten different files from the labels.

    Amazon's own mp3 FAQ says:

    >Bit Rate: Where possible, we encode our MP3 files using variable bit rates for maximum audio quality and smaller file sizes, aiming at an average of 256 kilobits per second (kbps). Using a variable bit rate allows us to allocate a higher bit rate to the more complex sections of music files while using a smaller bit rate for the less complex sections. The average of these rates is then calculated to produce an average bit rate for the entire file that represents the overall sound quality. Some of our content is encoded using a constant bit rate of 256 kbps. This content will have the same excellent audio quality at a slightly larger file size.

    Yeah, right.

Question. What about mp3's? You can't add them to a cart, but they're there!

u/FredWampy · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hi.

Thanks for the contest!

Happy music anniversary, kalanz!

u/PaganPirate · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. I had no idea how much re-writing has been done recently to the rules! WOW.

  2. That it has to be six months before you can do a re-intro post.

2.5. That my connection SUCKS today but Bleu is so amazingly awesome that I don't care bceause I can hear her sweet voice - even though it's quivery to me. (And I laughed out loud at "Do I hear a train coming - choo chooo?" in the reporting video!)

  3. That you can only have 3 open contests at once. I have broken that rule before - but I promise to never do it again. Unless I forget. (Just kidding - geesh.)

u/LaLocaChristina · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Have you heard the science one? It is pretty much at a 5th grade science standards level for many of the songs. That said if they like the old stuff, just go for Apollo 18

u/Oneiropticon · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

how about Apollo 18? I don't have a ton of space stuff, but I'd be ecstatic if I could get ahold of enough meteorite with a high iron content to make a knife out of it.

u/DMKrodan · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

How are you tonight? And why specifically Richmond? I love this song, ever since I heard it

u/Floowey · 5 pointsr/southpark

Actually he has release some original albums, like this one!

I'm so skilled. I just enjoy her music and this album. It hurts my heart and makes me feel things.

Also, hi. I like you and all your contests. <3

u/LadySkywalker · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My most played song is Video Games by Lana Del Rey. Geezus. But I am rebuilding my itunes since I fried my last lap top :/

mp3 Well that's sort of hypocritical isn't it. Hmm. Screw it...I love her.

Demons!

I've just now discovered this song, and it's not half bad.
