I don't know about /u/fanny4real, but it is the 'basic' stuff I learn at my cognitive neuro psychology study. If you are really interested you should pick up a college book on cognitive neuro science, this is the one we use, there are probably cheaper sources to buy it from though.

Are you referring to https://www.amazon.com/MCAT-Psychology-Sociology-Review-Princeton/dp/1101920602/ref=dp_ob_title_bk

Is just TPR and KA notes a good idea or is Kaplan a good supplement.

I'm using TBR for all other review but some people just use Kaplan for content and score 520+.....

Upvote for you, Im a veteran in the exact same situation, though Im doing BS in psych. LEO career goals sort of disappeared due to competition and getting older. I hope to start MSW or related helping profession grad school next year.

I would suggest this book if you are going to do research,
and this one for general writing. Both come in handy for APA formatting, especially the first one.

Free book chapters. Mostly from the Encyclopedia on Measurement and Statistics.

*Edit - so, what topics of data analysis are you looking to cover? Biostats? Social research?

u/We_have_no_future · 2 pointsr/libros

Libros de psicologia general cubren este tema muy bien, en particular busca libros de abnormal psycology . Este es muy bueno: http://www.amazon.com/Abnormal-Psychology-Susan-Nolen-Hoeksema/dp/007336603X

I was looking at that one and didn't look at the EK one too much.

What do you think?

u/maester_lecter · 3 pointsr/Psychiatry

How "quick" are you looking for? If you want to be done in under a half hour then Psych Lite might be what you're looking for. If you've got about an hour then try Psychiatry Made Ridiculously Simple. If you've got a full day, Oxford Handbook of Psychiatry may be the way to go.

I used this for the test I took last year. Warning: the test may have changed, possibly rendering this book out of date.

A couple of years ago I got this book: http://www.amazon.com/Outbreak-Encyclopedia-Extraordinary-Social-Behavior/dp/1933665254

It's really incredible how moral panics and mass hysterias are generally a female phenomenon.

NO. Absolutely Not.

When a person takes their live, who are they hurting? Themselves? No. Once your dead, you don't care that your dead. You are physically incapable of caring that you are dead. Truthfully, it doesn't actually hurt yourself to commit suicide. So who does it hurt? EVERYONE AROUND YOU. The parents, friends, family...they are all absolutely devastated by your suicide. Your parents will forever blame themselves...no matter what kind of bullshit note you left, they will never be able to forgive themselves....they will always feel like it is their fault somehow. Any kind of significant other you had: devastated forever. Kids: left in this cruel world without a father or a mother. Friends: Forever haunted by your memory.

It is the same reason why murder isn't OK. If you kill someone, they themselves aren't really hurt. They are dead: they don't know their dead, and they don't care. It is the people that care about them that are forever devastated.

If, theoretically, someone was a hermit, who has never interacted with another human being, and has no one that cares about them, then they are welcome to commit suicide. That situation isn't really feasible though.

Also: Anyone who wants to commit suicide is not a rational person. There is never a reasonable defense to suicide. If holocaust victims had the will to carry on, so can you. If starving children in Africa have the will to carry on, so can you. If you are really contemplating suicide in a serious way, go get help. You probably have depression, a completely treatable disorder. You have a responsibility to live, to try and make things better for yourself.

Background: I am the son of a clinical psychiatrist who works with aids patients. I have seen a lot of suicides in my life. People who were dying of aids, and had chronic depression. It doesn't make it any less painful for their family. Him , His book

TL;DR: No. You forever devastate everyone around you. It is not OK.
