The DSLR bags are a good start. I bought this and it holds everything but the HMD. I went with the insert since I had a regular backpack I wanted to use which has straps for two tripods. For the HMD I picked up a large headphone bag. It's a bit tight but the HMD and cables do fit. If I had a laptop powerful enough to run my Vive, my whole setup would fit in my backpack with these.

That is actually a lot harder to find than I thought it would be.

There seems to be a number of small screens, but most are either expensive ($400+) little touch screens or USB monitors designed for business travel, but no sound (another example).

After a bit of searching I think I may have found a 'monitor' that will meet those needs, albeit a little on the small side.

Coollcd 619ah 7 Inch Hd Lcd Field Monitor w/ Hdmi + 450cd/m2

  • HDMI in
  • Composite/VGA in via SKS interface
  • built in speaker
  • supposedly supports a max resolution of 1080p
  • 7" screen (must be for ants)

    ---

Looking at TV's, finding small is getting harder and harder it seems.

I've looked through my normal retailers, but most seem to set the lower limit of monitors at 17" and TV's at 15". That got me thinking about personal/portable TV's, something like this 7" RCA., but the problem with these seems to be that they lack inputs. An option to address that might be an RF modulator (older video game systems needed one of these to connect to the cable/antenna coax plug on the TV).

I wish I could have been of more help, but hopefully something here inspires you or another redditor to an idea.

Let me know if interested. It includes several items not included with the initial bag purchase

photo insert

[rain cover] (https://www.amazon.com/MindShift-Gear-r180°-Horizon-Backpack-Charcoal/dp/B00WX8XBTE/ref=pd_bxgy_421_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00WX8XBTE&pd_rd_r=1MQZCZZFZ1QVK0WF6AN0&pd_rd_w=fI6fq&pd_rd_wg=XagUC&psc=1&refRID=1MQZCZZFZ1QVK0WF6AN0)

tripod suspension kit

All that stuffs pretty standard bag accessories but the tripod suspension kit is actually pretty sweet and I debated keeping it, if you aren't interested in it.

There are several.

The Boss Strap is what I have, seem pretty good but I haven't used it much, still using neck strap. There's also an Op-Tech. I saw this Op Tech Double Sling that looks very interesting. If you want to carry one camera, you can attach both slings to each side of the camera so it'll probably be strapped down quite well.

I just started to search amazon for some foam before noticing the frequently bought where they seem to sell that too!
1010 Foam Inserts
1040 Foam Inserts
Even cut into little blocks by looks of things making it even easier. This has just sold it to me, Im going to review the dimensions of which I want and get one. Looks perfect for my needs. I may also get some of this foam sheet to make a real snug fit and help give some protection ontop.

After many years of travelling I've pretty much gone over to exclusively using two companies for equipment: Pelicases for hardbags and Think Tank for softbags. I've tried different bags but these two vonsistently make rugged, high-quality, well designed gear.
For clothes etc. I use whatever, sometimes I use clothes as extra softpacking around equipment to keep it extra snug.
All camera and lenses I never check in, so they go in a Think Tank Hard Drive on my back. Sometimes I have Lite Panels as a carry-on, too.
Rest goes in Pelicases, sometimes I will stash a tripod or light stands in my clothes bag, using the clothes as bubble wrap to make sure they don't get damaged. Ideally I want to be able to move carrying or rolling ALL my stuff without a Trolley or whatever. So a backpack, a Rolling Peli and a rolling clothes/tripodbag is good.

You have two good options:

  • get a camera wrap and wrap your lens, body, ... in those wraps. Then put everything inside your backpack. I, and almost every other landscape photographer/backpacker that I saw does this. I use Op/Tech for lens and body.

  • get a camera insert and put it in your backpack. Something like this. Check that your insert will fit into your backpack. I use Timbuk 2 insert (along with Timbuk 2 messenger bag) for my daily use.

Of course, you can always go and get a dedicated backpack/camera bag, but in my experience the companies that make good camera bag don't know how to make durable and ultralight backpack. Similarly, the backpack companies don't know how to make utilitarian camera bag. I've checked many camera/backpack combination and they all suck.

Also you might want to consider a sling strap instead of a neck strap. It shifts the weight of the camera from your neck to your upper body and makes it much, much more stable. I went canyoning with this thing and a 3lbs DSLR!

I would highly recommend tamrac rally 7 in your case (to fit the 13" ultrabook). I have been carrying my stuff in a rally 5 for a year and a half now, it fits my nikon d5100 with 35mm, 50mm, 8mm fisheye, 11-16mm and 55-300mm, and has a slot to put my nexus 7 tablet in, also the flap in the front fits my pouch of filters and extra batteries etc.

I actually own a rally 7 as well, picked it up on ebay for about $50. As I wanted something bigger if I have to lug my strobes around in the same bag also.

Overall both of these are very sturdy & well built with a wide strap. I have carried mine around with all my gear for a whole day without dying of exhaustion.

Not perfect but what I use inside a larger bag: https://smile.amazon.com/3V-Gear-Sentinel-Padded-Camera/dp/B07CQ22HFN

It's big enough for a 60 or two 40s or one Pod and other gear, and squishes down to not waste space when other stuff is packed around it.

But if you want something more like a snug fit for one small Pod, it's way bigger than needed.

I don't think they make it any more but i use the Crumpler The Industry Disgrace strap (weird name), then put some heavy duty swivel trigger hooks on it (the kind used on dog leads) so i could use it with split rings on any cameras. I've used that with my 5lb bronica sq-ai set up and it's fairly comfortable as the strap spreads the load quite well.

Love my CineBags backpack

https://www.amazon.com/Cinebags-DSLR-HD-Backpack-CB23/dp/B00858AXQK/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=cinebags&qid=1566319515&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I can fit a whole shoulder rig kit with a V-mount in it with lenses. Strap on a medium tripod to the outside. Chest strap, was it strap.Fits in overhead too.

Small complaint is the rigid plastic piece can dig into your back a little at certain angles, but can usually be adjusted to be comfortable.

Domke 1" camera strap: http://www.amazon.com/Domke-Camera-Strap-Swivel-Navy/dp/B003XVKAGM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1449108029&sr=8-3&keywords=domke+1%22

Only $18! 1" neck strap. Lightweight. Good build quality. Has a swivel on it so you don't get it flipped/curled on your shoulder. Has a grip on one side so it won't slide off your shoulder. Best strap I ever bought for the money.

u/lmdw · 1 pointr/photography

1" Domke gripper without swivel, has rubber woven into the strap, doesn't slip off my shoulder and is super comfortable to wrap around my hand... http://www.amazon.com/Domke-740-6BK-1-Inch-without-Swivel/dp/B00009R8CV/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334276349&sr=8-1

They look very much like this GoPro Hero case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01950C350
I got one not long ago and it fits the Smashing Bounce brilliantly.

u/emackn · 1 pointr/Goruck

I have both. I use my GR2 for the weekend trips. The GR1 is my EDC.

The GR2 is bigger, 40L, compared to the GR1 which is 26L.

To the GR1, I added a GR1 Field Pocket and a Maxpedition Anemone attached to the Molle above bladder flap.

I dont carry that much on most days so the GR1 works best for me. On days that I ride a bike to the train, I can easily get a spare change of clothes, water bottle, and change of shoes if needed.

u/Dalek5961 · 2 pointsr/Vive

That's all I could find as well. For belt's however I advise against buying a strap itself. Trackers and base stations use the same 1/4 inch thread as DSLRs

Therefore I have decided to purchase this belt rig for DSLRs

Edit: I found that you can also use Wrist straps from GoPro as well. But you would Need an adapter such as This one to make it work. The adapter alone would make the price hike. But an adapter like that would also increase distance from anchor point ant tracker. Resulting on a wobbly tracker when subject to fast motion.

u/riv_epica · 1 pointr/photography

I'm using a Carry Speed FS-Slim. Using it for about a year now. Superb build quality, totally worth the price.

u/WetFood · 1 pointr/photography

I bought this strap off of Amazon for a used a7ii that didn't come with one, and I love it.

u/tyzent · 1 pointr/travel

I am honestly not sure what you are asking here, so forgive me if this is not along the lines of what you are looking for, but I have been using a National Geographic pack as I travel, and it has worked wonders.

Specifically this one

But I know others travelers who own different packs, both in and out of this series, and they all seem good.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/photography

I'm a fan of this bag It's a bit smaller than most but that's a lot of the appeal. It does have a laptop compartment. You've got some bigger lenses in your collection though so it might not be for you.
