I'm not familiar with the area but I try to use a light food bag instead of Ursack wherever I can.

Lightload towels are my favorite. You can save ~2oz there too.

u/Missxem7 · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

Yes a microfiber/travel towel! works great. They’re really thin and absorbent. Mine packs up to a small rectangle and takes up way less space then a traditional towel and dries quick!

u/sheisaeval · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Love outdoors stuff!

This would be an awesome towel to take on a camping trip, especially if you go swimming in the lake and then use it as a blanket to wrap up in front of a fire.

u/neekowahhhh · 2 pointsr/travel

Just to piggyback on what this guy posted. I'm not sure if anyone else suggested what type of towel as most towels that people use at home are bulky etc. I never thought of the importance of having 1-2 towels for traveling until my cousin came back from 2 weeks in Europe this past March where a fellow traveler at a hostile introduced him to these. They are a life saver. To put it in perspective, this towel is the size of a bath towel you'd find at target that folds down to about the size of a paperback novel. I use small 10"x10" versions of these to wipe my car down after a car wash.. about 2-3 and some ringing out will dry all the excess water.. I suggest getting 2.. one for laying on at a beach, and the other for drying off with.

Cheers and stay safe!

Have you tried a microfiber towel? I also like to air dry, but these are a lifesaver if I don't have the time.

u/mrcrassic · 3 pointsr/consulting

okay that's really cute.

but seriously, i bring a towel and washcloth with me everywhere; specifically, these:

Frog Togg bandanas. They're great at keeping you cool and holding in water when it's hot, and it doubles as a bandana when the winds roll in. Two birds, one stone. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00F8PT2MO/ref=mp_s_a_1_14/182-5162304-6814957?qid=1427606394&sr=8-14&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=frogg+togg+cooling+towel

I bought a backpack made for biking, but its quite compact and does not bounce when I run. All I carry are clothes and toiletries. Oh, and I bought a fancy swimmer's towel that is small and dries super quick.

u/Toufles · 16 pointsr/birthcontrol

Pretty sure that is just a compressed travel towel, partially expanded.

Edit 1: seeing what /u/jamesvdant said, I had no idea snugpak had an under quilt that cheap. I’d go with that. I have a Snugpak sleeping bag and it is the best sleeping bag I’ve used yet.

The biggest issue is wind passing through the hammock and your sleeping bag being compressed. So blocking that wind is crucial. Two ideas:

  1. I take a microfiber towel with me when I hike. Placing this between the hammock and the sleeping bag can result in a slightly warmer sleep just by blocking the wind.

  2. As /u/Coryh83 said: Find an army surplus store and ask them for a “whoobie” also known as a poncho liner. You can pick them up from $20-30. Then follow this video on how to create a poncho liner under quilt. You will need some shock cord, and other little tidbits. Total shouldn’t cost more than $40-50

Bonus: something I found out, was whenever I slept under my rainfly and had it closer to my hammock, this would create a warm barrier almost. Still didn’t help whenever a cold breeze blew against my back but it helped to quickly warm me back up.

If anyone is going to be buying a packtowel, the one I just purchased off of amazon (size small, .7oz) came with a little mostly-waterproof zippered pouch. The pouch just so happens to be the perfect size for some credit cards and cash. The pouch weighs .2oz. Just thought I'd share. Not that the wallet is 100% necessary, but if you were wanting one anyways, this is an option.

This thing is amazing.

I've been using it for over a year, and can't get over how awesome it is. Super-absorbent, and dries fast, and packs down really really small.

You can get some pretty small towels. Example. If you have short hair, you can even dry off with a T-shirt. I just took a small hand towel with me on my last trip and it worked fine.

I took a swimmer's towel. We never had a shower camp or anything, but it was enough to clean off with.

Kept it in it's box in my pack.

u/Freonr2 · 1 pointr/bonnaroo

If humidity is not too high a slightly damp towel will evaporate and cool itself. Drape over back of neck or use as a headband. Bandanas are too thin to remain damp very long, so a micro fiber towel or various brands (as others linked below) that specialize in evaporative cooling like this work better.

Another option that's cheaper:

I swear by my Lunatek Aquabot mister between that and an O2Cool snap towel most heat gets managed. I also carry a hand fan and bodice chillers to bring the core temp down. The mister also doubles as a miser shower which will get me through most festival days. Note: stick with bodice chillers that will pass inspection, avoid the glass ones.

The tablets I use are biodegradable (like these https://www.amazon.com/Compressed-Biodegradable-Towels-Capsules-Camping/dp/B01F654NPQ) and not that expensive. But depending on the location, you pack out everything you pack in.

Most of the time you can just dig a cat hole and bury them. There are some guidelines on the location where to do this which you can find in this helpful REI page:
