It's about separating the actual history from the myth of the Nativity story. My wife accidentally picked it up for my super Christian parents, but after I read the back cover, I decided I wanted it for myself instead (and that they would probably not appreciate it).
A friend gave me this book last year, and I plan to include it in my Advent readings. I'm not too happy with it (it seems to sneak a lot of Christmas back into Advent), but I think it will be edifying anyway.

I study biblical history as a hobby: Geza Vermes' "The Nativity: History and Legend" is on my nightstand and I went to three stores today to try and find the current Newsweek The Bible issue.
