The list looks alright, but just a few suggestions.

  • Tools: Most of the time, there's something that is fairly lacking in the all-in-one kits. be it the scissors or even possibly the coil jig. I've had zero luck using coil jigs(My coils wrap on top of themselves) so I prefer to wrap by hand on a small screwdriver. Most precision sets are clearly marked in millimeter sizes and are typically in the most common coil sizes 2.0, 2.4 and 3.0 mm. It's sometimes a little cheaper or the same price to source your own tools, they just don't come with a bag to hold them. If money isn't really a concern then a kit like this is a decent start, but you may wind up needing to replace some items as your building skills progress.

  • Cotton: Again, decent place to start but you can get MUCH more for a little more money on Amazon. I like Labo Puffs

  • Resistance meter: Again, decent to start. Better are out there, but this will get you in the ballpark. Use www.steam-engine.org to get a good estimate, then use the resistance meter to read your build. Then if no shorts are found, place it on your mod. Look to see how close or how far off your meter is. Mine runs 0.16 ohms higher than my mods, so I know where my limit is.

  • Wire: UD wire is pretty good, but just for curiosity's sake, why 27 gauge? I mostly use 26 in both my DL and my MTL builds and it works well, be it kanthal or 316L SS. Just remember to clean your wire before building to get any left over machine oil off. A simple wipe with iso alcohol is fine.

That's about all I've got-You put together a pretty decent "First Build" kit. Enjoy!

Good guide. Especially the method of drying. ;-)

That said, I recommend against nail polish and nail polish remover; polish doesn't set as well as enamel paint, and thus, it won't last as long or look as nice. One factor to this is that enamel paint settles flat better than nail polish does - the latter tends to curve inward or bulge outward, depending on exactly how much there is, whereas enamel paint can be polished off relatively even to the gun surface. Here's a comparison, with nail polish on the left and enamel paint on the right, and here's the final product. Note that this method also works on plastic; I filled the etching of the Crimson Trace laser as well.

Instead, I recommend Testor's 1168 Flat White enamel paint, which can be found at most hobby supply and arts & crafts stores. I apply with a very thin brush or with toothpicks, depending on how fine the work needs to be. I'll stick the tip directly into the etching grooves so that I don't end up with bubbles. I try to keep the coat relatively thin, but just thick enough so that I can't quite see the etching through the first coat when I'm done. (More on the second coat shortly.) Let it dry for an hour with a fan on it. You can sometimes get away with less time, or use a hair dryer to speed up the process, but I've found less than an hour (if you don't use a hair dryer) leaves the paint too tacky and more comes off than I'd like.

To clean up the excess paint, don't use paint thinner - not even Testors. Paint thinner will, well, make the paint too thin. This makes it too easy to accidentally remove paint from the etching that you want to leave behind. Instead, I use Hoppe's No. 9 Bore Solvent. It works similarly to paint thinner but isn't quite as powerful, which means it doesn't thin the paint as much. It's also a useful gun cleaner, so it's handy to have around anyway. :-)

Use a combination of cotton rounds and makeup sponge wedges, both of which can be found in the make-up section in most grocery stores or pharmacies for a few bucks per bag. The rounds are good for broad strokes to wipe away larger amounts of excess paint, and the wedges are good for detail work or to gently swipe evenly over the etching without pressing loose cotton threads into the etching. I try to do as few wipes over the actual etching as possible - the more you wipe the etching, the greater the chance you remove paint from inside the etching. Don't press hard, either; just press enough to maintain contact; let the solvent do the work for you.

Let the paint dry for another hour, and then apply a second coat. Odds are good that you've accidentally removed too much paint in some parts of the etching, especially where it's thin or has sharp corners. Then let dry for an hour, remove the excess with Hoppe's again, and let dry overnight to fully cure.

This will probably take you around a total of 3 hours to do, but it's worth the extra time - it looks beautiful and will last forever. Obviously, you'll need more beer for this method, but OP says you can get a 30-pack of Miller Lite for $18. It may suck, but after 30 of them, you probably won't care.

u/InterPunct · 36 pointsr/WTF

I've had hidradenitis suppurativa for decades but I managed to get it under control. I use a combination of products with salicylic acid, and when necessary antibiotics.

I wash once a day with Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash and at least twice a day with an astringent like this one applying it with rolled cotton that you can get from Amazon cheap. It's amazing the oils and other crud the white cotton and astringent will pick up. I also wear only white boxers.

When I feel a small boil coming on I load up on cephalexin antibiotic. It stops the worst part which is the swelling and inflamation. The key here is to get it early, before it gets inflamed.

I'm also under the care of a great dermatologist who will see me on-demand (unlike most of them) and will drain them and inject them with corticoid steroids. That stuff is like magic.

Best of luck, YMMV but using this regimen is the best I've been in years.

u/uubailey · 2 pointsr/Waxpen

This is a pretty solid technique to clean coils, but good luck "reclaiming" anything out of the process. You want the foil under the coil to catch the spent wax so you can just toss it.

Q-tips are great too for quick cleaning after each session. I got some of these ultra luxurious swabs from Amazon and I honestly can't believe I used anything else:

KINGZHUO 1000pcs Cotton Swabs 4"... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0734JL881?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Hot 99% isopropyl alcohol + table salt in a Ziploc sitting in very hot water works awesome too. Swish the alcohol and salt around the coils (or whatever) and it speeds up the process pretty significantly.

> I'm looking for a good cleaning kit and set of tools for this gun.

For a starter kit, i'd recommend something like this setup:

  • Otis Cleaning Kit
  • 6" Q-Tips - Great for the hard to reach spots a regular short Q-Tip can't reach.
  • TekMat - Only cleaning mat brand i'll go with, durable, and solid for the price.
  • CLP - Whatever you prefer, everyone has something they like/prefer. For now, i've been using RandCLP to clean my guns for the last year, and some ALG Go-Juice as my lube.
  • Brushes - I don't use these as often as some do, most use them for stuff like scrubbing their BCG's. I only clean my AR's after a high round count, so i use mine maybe once a month when i clean my regular phosphate BCG's.
  • Shop Towels - I use the shit out of these. After shooting suppressed i gave up on being real anal-retentive about cleaning, so i just wipe down parts (BCG, uppers, CH, etc) with a shop towel and re-lube where needed. I only do a detailed cleaning maybe 1-2 a year.
  • AR Tool - Despite Tapco stuff usually being Chinese junk, their AR tool is pretty tip-top, i've had it for about 3.5 years now and used it a lot, it's held up wonderfully.

I use a kit i put together myself for cleaning my handguns, rifles, shotgun, etc, for cleaning. My guns get cleaned differently, which gun it is dictates how it'll get clean and how often.

kinda related... but did you all know that reusable cotton or bamboo makeup pads exist? (i didn’t until some months ago)

i’ve switched over to using them to remove my make up with my micellar water and they do a great job and i just throw them into the wash with my laundry. they were affordable and available on amazon (also seen DIY versions too!). just sharing in case you were interested in reducing your waste! :)

edit: this is the amazon link to bamboo ones i have purchased (comes with one cute bag and one mesh bag) but there are many other listings and someone also suggested etsy. i personally have no other experiences with other reusable pads but these work and wash fine! (they require slightly more liquid product but this is a trade off i am fine with)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FJLMMBS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_70kXCbE0YW0SQ

edit 2: also these unfortunately don’t work to replace pads to remove nail polish just FYI!!!

If you chose to go the rebuilding route this is what you need, and some atty suggestions at the end.

You need- wire- http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Lightning-Vapes-Kanthal-Resistance/dp/B00JVXVKB0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1413428261&sr=8-2&keywords=kanthal+a1

cotton- either balls or pads http://www.amazon.com/Organic-Cotton-Balls-80-Count/dp/B00CD8FCRI/ref=sr_1_6?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1413428355&sr=1-6&keywords=organic+cotton http://www.amazon.com/Cotton-Labo-ORGANIC-Puff-200pc/dp/B000TCD51A/ref=pd_ybh_5

drill bit set- http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-Drill-Bit-Set-13-Piece-45110/204590609#product_description

Tweezers- any pharmacy

Disposable butane torch- any gas station

ohm reader- http://101vape.com/meters/170-ohms-meter.html
(most regulated mods have a built in one, but a reliable and exact external ohm meter is very good to have)

rebuildables- tanks- kayfun https://www.fasttech.com/p/1605200 (google some kayfun build tutorial videos, stay under 20 watts while vaping on it)

drippers- magma https://www.fasttech.com/p/1718100
zenith https://www.fasttech.com/p/1770202

(both of those drippers are a good start because you can block 1 air intake and make single coils untill you are comfortable enough to build dual coils)

I own these drippers and that tank. They are the cheapest clones on the market but all work great. Shipping takes 3 weeks, chose first class china e-packet as shipping option

OPTIONAL- coil jig, no need for drill bits, MAKES COIL BUILDING EASY https://www.fasttech.com/p/1878301 (I've honestly never tried this, but I recently ordered one to try out, should have it in 2 weeks)

u/Peenutbutter_Jelly · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I love mine. I am in Canada and ordered mine from Amazon. I have tried 2 brands and they are both great. I use the bamboo ones that roogoogle mentioned and these ones . I don't wear makeup, I use mine for micellar water and toner applications.

To wash them you can put them in the laundry bags, as others have mentioned. I also hand wash mine sometimes. I soak in boiling water for 10 mins. I then wash them by hand with gentle detergent and then put them on a rack to air dry. I don't always have access to the washing machine when I need it. Hope this information helps you!

u/flower1988 · 1 pointr/Vaping101

Kanthal is typically used and will be your most commonly seen wire. I only know of Gplat as an alternative (I used it... not worth the price increase IMO) I get mine from Amazon, I originally started with 28 gauge, then a buddy let me borrow his 26 gauge, that was good too. I purchased some 24 gauge and it drains my batteries hard (which is why I want a dual box mod.)

Yes, a mod is the housing. Then you will need your atomizer and battery.

I started dripping with the IGO-w atty with the Smok Magneto Mod. Biggest problem I had with it is it was small and i had to drill the air holes. I still use the Magneto.

I would never suggest tank anything. I tried both the genuine and the clone russian 91% and it was a terrible experience.

So, for a beginner getting into dripping I would suggest these parts:

[Plum Veil Atomizer] (http://www.eciggity.com/plume-veil-clone-by-tobeco/) (Note! I have not bought anything from this site.)

ANY single battery 18650 mechanical mod. They all realistically do the same thing. RipTrippers.com does a lot of reviews, they should be able to point you in the right direction. I do however suggest one with a magnetic fire button instead of spring. (It will lower resistance and last longer because springs are weaker than magnets)

Atleast 2 [18650 Sony batteries] (http://www.myvaporstore.com/SONY_VTC5_18650_2600mAh_Battery_Flat_Top_30A_p/sny65026-f.htm)

Charger I chose the two battery one for money purposes but I suggest the 4 since it's only like $5 more and can charge a myriad of batteries

[These clamp things] (http://www.amazon.com/5-5-KELLY-Hemostat-FORCEPS-Straight/dp/B000QWK174/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1414788271&sr=8-6&keywords=medical+clamps) makes building much easier

I use these but a lot of people use nailclippers

[Wire] (http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Lightning-Vapes-Kanthal-Resistance/dp/B00JVXVKB0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1414788396&sr=8-2&keywords=28+gauge+kanthal+wire) either 28 or 26 gauge is what I would recommend.

Cotton Balls

[Ohm Tester] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MBNCOMG/ref=s9_simh_gw_p328_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0J7AHRP45YSC4DHAS7DB&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846)

Drill bits, allen keys or screwdriver to wrap coils around (i usually use Allen Keys)

Another Screwdriver for you builds

Tweezers are nice for accurate adjustments

Some people suggest a torch.... it's a waste of money for most builds. The main idea behind them is they are used to burn off any chemicals on the wire... but when you are done building you just fire it a few times before you put cotton in them and it does the same thing. Some builds need a more flexible wire... that is the only time you will need it.

Note: I 100% support the use of Clones, especially when you are starting out your vape life. They save so much money and do an adequate (if not better) job of most authentics.

here's a set of videos you can watch.... instead of a spore syringe (used in the videos) you will use a sterilized Q-tip and take a few spores from your print that you order-wipe the print then wipe the spores onto agar.... or place directly into jar.... anytime you see a spore syringe in the videos instead-you'll have to use a sterilized Q-tip and spores (you can buy these Q-tips at any drug store) The process is easy once you learn about Still air box and keeping things clean.... is it perfect, no.... but you WILL be successful if you try a few times and follow the methods you see in the videos....

the "Tiger drop" videos are on this page.... scroll down to find them.... the reason you'd want to use agar is because the success rate is higher and the growth is faster....

I'm not saying buy these specifically. I was just trying to get a judgement for what type you were thinking of. Also, the ones you buy in the containers are so thin because they're soaked in a liquid. When you get cotton rounds wet (even the ones I linked), they're not going to take up as much space and will probably be just as thin. If your concern is that they're going to fall apart or tear, then just get the higher quality tear-resistant ones, which you would have seen if you'd even glanced at the similar product listings. I'm assuming you were thinking of something closer to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6KP7U4/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?psc=1

I have no idea how large you think these are, but, honestly, if you don't have enough room for some pre-soaked cotton rounds, you don't have enough room for a cleanser and sunscreen either. Instead of being so dismissive in all your comments, maybe consider thanking someone for the time they spent to try to help you. And then maybe consider looking into any of their suggested comments and doing a little research for your self.

Btw, your best bet for your toner and essences would be to get a travel sized spray top bottle and decant your products into that. That way you don't have any pads to deal with and you don't have to deal with dirty hands for rubbing it in. You're welcome.

u/Nekkosan · 3 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I like the Selena multi layer ones. They are thin, but stoft and strong. If you like fluffy, soft ones then the Shiseido are lovely.

u/KeepYourClawsOut · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I'm normally not an organic-pusher, but these are amazing.

Rounds 80 Count (3 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GMPGETI?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

They never pill or fall apart as I'm using them like cheap cotton rounds do when wet. I can use one for my whole face. They are incedibly soft as well. So worth it.

u/fpreview · 3 pointsr/fountainpens

I like the long cotton swabs to get the inside of a barrel clean, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X9WDGV2/ref=sxr_pa_click_within_right_2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER they work well and you control them a bit better than a pipe cleaner.

For the sac, measure the nipple on the back of the section, in 64ths of an inch, and buy the sac that matches that size, I like Indy Pen Dance for sacs, they also have the shellac you would need. So if your section nipple is 17/64ths, order a number 17 sac.

I use these: Wegreeco Bamboo Makeup Remover Pads 12 Pack with Laundry Bag - Chemical free, Reusable Soft Facial and Skin Care Wash Cloth Pads - Wipes Face Clean (White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079B836R2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ys5cBbWC19PR8

I like that they come with a bag to throw them in the wash. I keep them in a jar and i have the bag hanging by my mirror so I can put the used ones in there right away.

u/holly421 · 2 pointsr/ZeroWaste

I have these re-useable face pads that I bought from Amazon (I know, I know) that I absolutely love! They're soft and seem to do a great job. I've also heard that you can use nursing pads for the same purpose.

I use these 200 Count 6" Cotton Swabs with Wooden Handles Cotton Tipped Applicator (2 Pack), but at $7 for 200 with only one end, I think your gf's Muji buds might be your best bet.

u/youglowgal · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

After cleansing I would use a gentle toner with a soft wipe to make sure everything was removed. You can use cotton pads but if your skin uber sensitive they might not feel good and they absorb a lot of product... I use these at home/work, they feel good and don't waste product: http://www.amazon.com/Intrinsics-Petite-Cotton-Wipes-200-ct/dp/B003O4IZ9C/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1462765477&sr=1-1&keywords=intrinsics

> At 16.16 a box (after 10% discount for buying the gun) not sure if this is a good deal.

New brass 9mm goes at .20-.25/round. Some online sellers are shipping to SF, you need to check Cabelas, Natchez, Lucky Gunner, Ammunition Supply Warehouse, Target Sports. I think they all send to "hippie" places. You may find some others on ammoseek. Or you can find a friend outside of SF/Oakland proper.

> they recommend cleaning after every range trip

It wouldn't hurt. Oil itself is not enough. You can buy a Hoppes kit and it will have everything you need (except the bore snake, if you want to use it). This is also useful.

> Any recommendation for trainers in the SF bay area?

I know Reed's has some courses but I never took them myself.

Here is the box that is Rayon on Amazon, you can probably scope out better deals, but I used that link to show the box!

And here it is on Sallys

I had a coworker vaping buddy give me 100 feet after he got a 500 foot box from Sally's, just gave it to me, he said there is no way he can humanly consume 500 feet worth. It's an accurate assessment (I used to buy this in 1 foot increments from my B&M because I am super lazy, and 5 feet would last me a month)

Japanese cotton is great. I can never go back. It's super cheap on Amazon too.

I've heard great things about rayon too but I haven't tried it yet. It's also really cheap on Amazon .

Edit: fixed link for rayon

d'oh.. just realized the cotton I got from amazon was a different brand. I got this instead. I must've switched at the last minute because of free shipping. I think I dodged the bullet on that one.

Precision cotton swabs + rubbing alcohol will do just fine to gently remove small amounts of paint from a small area.

The other cotton I use

As far as battery life, it varies by batteries and, to me at least, by mod. I had a smok bt65 which was fine at low power but seemed to chew through batteries at high power, I believe the device was just inefficient or the screen and such too up too much or something.

My old Sig 75w seemed to last much longer with a single battery. Also, to maximize your battery life I recommend LG HG2 batteries since they are 3000mah

These are a good disposable option or, ones like it. With these, you could even cut them in half per-use (into 2-ply from 4 ply). Not as thick and absorbent as cotton rounds.

You want the thickest vapor, then you will want to use a Rebuildable Dripping atomizer in conjunction with a mechanical battery tube. Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZMjRx2LAC4

My suggestion, if you really have no budget, is a Surefire King mechanical mod

http://shop.vaperev.com/devices/mechanical/knurled-king-mod.html

And an atomic Rebuildable Dripper

And a Drip tip

And some batteries (18650)

http://www.okcvapes.com/aw-imr-batteries/

And a charger

http://www.okcvapes.com/nitecore-intellicharger-i4/

And some 28g A1 Kanthal Wire

http://www.okcvapes.com/kanthal-wire/

And some Organic cottonballs

There are tons of videos on youtube that will teach you how to set all this stuff up. Let us know if you have any questions.

Got a link for that dental cotton? Here's what I've found on amazon, are any of the following similar to what you're talking about?

little cylinders

a roll

a bigger roll

thick roll

I use these organic cotton rounds which I find at a local walmart. Although I might start ordering them from Amazon since it's apparently cheaper !

I don't experience any shedding and the cotton is very soft.

I just bought these bamboo ones on Amazon but have yet to use them (finishing the cotton ones first):

I don't really like my inoculation loop. I don't like having to "sanitize" or flame the loop and... I bet it would work but I just got a box of... https://www.amazon.com/Cotton-Tip-Applicator-Sterile-100/dp/B000BI3M60/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1550087680&sr=8-3&keywords=Sterile+swabs so I'm not sure if I'll ever use it. Or I use a scalpel.
