interactive fiction adventure was continued over several subs, can be linked on request or search my post history. my apologies for the top comment, but I thought I should give the audience what they wanted.

a writing prompt short story for Reddit It's on my own subreddit filled with lots of other short stories if you want to see more.

A novel I've self published A short extract is available to read for free. This one is a sequel to another I also have online that makes me a bit of money. The other book is probably better but I think this book has a slightly better opening, but both books improve as they go along. I was in my teens when these books were published, so i'd probably do them differently today.

I've also done, many, many more stories and text adventures, as well as print journalism and other forms of writing. I can provide more links if wanted

Shitlord In the Anus of Madness, Dystipian Sci-Fi, ~12000 Words

>Like all great artists do, Shia tried to become his art. He tried to be a force for good in the world. He tried to change minds. He tried his best to elevate consciousness; to help people realize their potential for self actualization. He tried to enable them to become like him: Master of their own destiny. To not let their dreams be dreams. But instead, he ended up exhausting his social capital, leaving sloppy personal messes in his wake which could not be cleaned. He became unemployable. Toxic. He was pushed out by those who had once accepted him. He was dumped. Now he hungers for the success that he once tasted.

Hey everyone! A day or so ago, I published my first book on Amazon after about... four years of work, give or take. It's been a bit of a journey, but I've definitely come out the other side a better writer! So here's some shameless self promotion;

Title: Null and Void

Genre: Science Fiction/Comedy

Feedback: ... I mean, you can tell me whether or not you like it, I suppose (but maybe do it on Amazon...)

Link: (Kindle) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TYX9YFQ , (Paperback) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1731342950

As per Amazon's policy, you can read the first little chunk of it for free (or all for free, if you have KDP Select). It's a sort of Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams affair (similar to Yahtzee Crowshaw's books, I suppose), with a bit more of a dark-comedy tone. I'm happy to say that at least a few people have said they like it, so at least I've done something right.

In case I've piqued anyone's curiosity, I had a small trailer put together that sums the whole tone up quite nicely. You can watch it here; https://youtu.be/MQp7y3FV4UA

Thanks for checking me out (if you do), and enjoy!

u/Rimshot1985 · 1 pointr/badMovies

Ok, let me explain myself. Like you, I love bad movies. Maybe a little too much. So, naturally, I decided to write a book about them. Some of the funniest times of my life have been hanging out with friends to watch them, and I wanted to create something… out there… so I said "why the hell not?" The goal was to match the aesthetic of a B-movie.

The book stars Gilman, first name unknown. He's disgusting and socially inept. But he means well. In December, 1992, Gilman meets a bunch of bad movie lovers who show him a good time, and it changes his life. Then, they get B-movie-style revenge on any narbo who's ever wronged them. Feel free to check it out on Amazon to find out more.

Download the book here.. Like I said in the title, it's free until January 19. If you do read it, I'd appreciate it if you'd leave an honest review.

This sub has introduced me to so many "works" that have influenced this project, so I sincerely want to give something back. I hope you try it. Thanks!

Edit: Also got mod approval to post this.

u/MissGingerAle · 1 pointr/booksuggestions

I'm not totally following your guidelines by recommending this, but I think you'd enjoy it (if you're not easily offended). The book is called The Hole Behind Midnight. It really is a fantastic read for individuals who enjoy fantasy and RPG. If not, the author has some actual RPG work out that you would likely enjoy :)

Kill Your Friends: a Novel is a great read, total page turner, and also a very interesting look at the recording industry. a lot of the descriptions of the inner workings of said industry are quite on point, and the real life quotes at the beginning of each chapter really paint a picture.

also
Filth by Irvine Welsh has a really great anti-hero who fits your description pretty well.

u/aidsjohnson · 2 pointsr/paulthomasanderson

I'm a big fan of PTA (obviously, because I'm here), and I've been delving very deeply into this "Great American Novel" idea this year due to Moondog in The Beach Bum (I even went as far as putting out a novel called that earlier this year: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1099964237 )

Anyway, I gotta say: given the year I've had going down this path, I really enjoyed this video and your take on the film. I never quite looked at The Master in this manner before even though it was looking at me right in the face! For some reason, I've always thought of TWWB as more of the ultimate "American Novel," but you're definitely not wrong: The Master really does capture a certain feeling. I suppose that's one of the reasons why we love PTA's work so much and why we return to it so often: that theme is a big one in his work. (I mean, hell, even Boogie Nights could arguably be considered a "Great American" tale, right?)

u/DEFCOMDuncan · 1 pointr/selfpublish

Hi. I'm not sure if you're still looking for books (I always find these so late) but I wrote what I think is a really fun speculative fiction novel that has three reviews. I'd be thrilled if you took a look.

My book is **Squalls on the Shores of Slōrsh**. I just published it this past week and haven't attended to advertising for it; I don't even have the e-book linked to the paperback yet :)

https://www.amazon.com/Squalls-Shores-Slorsh-Sylvester-Olson-ebook/dp/B07HGH9Q1J/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1537671825&sr=8-2&keywords=squalls+on+the+shores+of+slorsh

Slōrsh an imaginary windswept country that gets hit by tsunamis every few generations or so, completely wiping out whatever populace happens to be living there at the time. A single pagoda from some unknown earlier age, housing a grinning stone moai, manages to survive each cataclysm. The stories in the book are "antitales," so the protagonists across different ages who encounter the moai and strive to utilize it in some advantageous way don't end up with happy endings.

It could never be called a Pegana proxy, but I think the common themes of bleak landscapes, abandoned cities/buildings, weird sculpture/statues, minimalism, and nihilistic humor make the inspiration evident. At least that's what I was going for :)

u/scattergirl · 2 pointsr/pics

Ever read Footsucker? A foot fetishist friend gave me that book, said it was the best description of his fetish that he'd come across. Good read.

u/EdLincoln6 · 3 pointsr/booksuggestions

Super common, actually.

The Black Wolves of Boston by Wen Spencer features a protagonist who becomes a werewolf. Misfit Pack does the same thing.

One Woke Up by Lee Gaiteri features a protagonist wrestling with coming to terms with his time as a zombie

Into The Abyss by J. Langland features a protagonist turned into a horned demon.

The Tome of Bill features a protagonist who becomes a vampire. (Characters turned into vampires is super common, actually)

We Are Legion (We Are Bob) features a protagonist who becomes a space probe.

Chrysalis and Queen in the Mud on Royal Road feature protagonists who are turned into an ant and a salamander respectively.

I've been enjoying The Tome of Bill Compendium. It makes those little pop culture references like Ready Player One did and quickly got me hooked.

u/ColinAllCarz · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

It is! If you like tongue and cheek humor with the supernatural, check out The Tome of Bill series by Rick Gualtieri too. It's about a nerd who accidentally becomes a very powerful vampire. I've seen the first book for free on Kindle before (that's how I got into the series), but I think you can get all 4 of the first books on Kindle for like $10 in the compendium that just came out.

Being currently halfway through Irvine Welsh's Filth, this doesn't surprise me one bit

it's an amazing insight into the mind of a bent cop. by the dude who wrote trainspotting. read it. seriously. now.

Adrian's Undead Diaries series books 1 - 8 by Chris Philbrook. Phenomenal read and a satisfying ending to boot.

u/bitter_cynical_angry · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I was going to suggest Filth by Irvine Welsh, but it's not really exactly what you're looking for.
