(Part 3) Reddit mentions: The best dry erase boards

I could really use this Dry Erase Board My roommate had one last year and I liked how she could just stick it on the wall. I had a planner, and while it worked, I had to remember to look at it. Sometimes people would leave these on the front of the doors and people could leave fun messages :)

Outside the classroom, I learned that while booksmarts are good, a lot of times, it's not everything, and that people can make huge differences in the world, without being super scholarly, by just simply being kind to others around them. Knowledge can only get you so far, character will get you further :)

My (non-ADHD) partner was beyond stressed out with me. He even broke off our engagement because he couldn't imagine life with someone who doesn't do anything around the house (He never talked to me about it before he broke it off - we talked it over and we're still together. TALKING IS IMPORTANT!!!)

After I realized how much my ADHD was affecting my home life, he and I agreed to start a weekly chore list - things that need to be done throughout out the week that I have a tendency to miss (which led to frustration for him when he felt he was doing it all). We check off items on the list we completed in our own different colors to keep track of who did what. And so I can try to make sure he's not doing disproportionately more than me.

Write down things that have to be done every week, and spread them around different days of the week to keep it from being a single exhausting marathon. Things like "Vacuum bedroom" force you to clear up the clutter on the floor, or "Sort your mail" a couple of times a week helps keep it from piling up for me.

We used this magnetic weekly calendar, and so far it's been a god-send!

I know having kids definitely puts a huge, unpredictable additional workload on you two, but having a schedule like this might everything you can control from piling up. Good luck!!

I live with five other people so we use a whiteboard to hammer out all the things that need to get done around the house- like who's doing what chores for the week, who fed the dog that day, and who bought cleaning supplies and household items last. Sometimes there are even passive aggressive notes, like, "Cardboard needs to be fucking recycled not put in the trash" and when I read things like that I let out a surprised little squeak. Luckily those have been less frequent lately. But anyways ours recently broke so I would love this whiteboard so that we can hammer out all of the house details!

If you have the money, get a battle mat and some dry erase markers. Also, grab some of these eraser sponges to make cleaning the mat off at the end of the night super easy.

If for some reason you can't get one of those, you can also get a dry erase whiteboard and use a ruler and a knife to score a grid into it, and then just rub black dry erase marker over the grid. The black powdered ink will get stuck in the grooves and turn into a grid. You can then use it like any other battle mat (just won't be able to roll it up when you're done). Takes some time and work, but if you already have a big whiteboard you're not using you can save yourself $30.

You can make them on google sheets pretty easily. I like to do a sheet for each week with the dates in the header and long columns below to sketch out the day. There’s also whiteboards if that’s your style.

Seriously, this thing must be awesome. No more need to redraw,prepare and print every single tile you might need in your campaign, make sure the scale is ok and then realize you need something different for various reasons...
You can literally draw the field on the spot any time you need to. Moreover, there are some of those with a grid on them so that it's always there regardless of the wipes ;) (but only wet erase ones)

I just use the ones from the dollar store. They work well for probably a month or so. I don't mind spending a dollar a month for a new, clean eraser.

There's also this one, which lasts for freakin' ever. Well worth it.

A whiteboard was really useful for me. You can put a small one, like this on your door to write notes to suitemates or rules if you have those, keep it to yourself for reminders, etc. Or if they're a stem person these are enormously useful for working on problems - just stick it on your wall

I ordered this one because i wanted a really big one to work with, but something like this will do just fine!

My dry-erase board where I plan out my week. Mine is a little bigger than that one, but same concept. It is better for me than any app or even a paper planner because I SEE it all the time. It is a constant reminder of the things I need to do. I guess the electronic equivalent would be making your planner/to do list your lock screen or desktop background.

If you ended up using a whiteboard, it might look better to grab a black ‘white’board and use white dry-erase markers. A quick Amazon search pulled up this

Hey- do you have any idea where I could find a chalkboard like this (if that even exists)? My brother has this in his dorm and I like the idea, but chalk just feels so much nicer to use.

I taught myself numbers in Chinese by writing them on my calendar in place of Arabic numbers. (I have a perpetual calendar - highly recommend!) I used the characters for a couple of months, then the pinyin for a couple of months. With no additional effort, just checking the date every day, I learned the numbers really effectively. Chinese numbers are so simple that I was able to keep going past 31, so the calendar method didn't limit me that way.

Get this eraser for your whiteboard. It lasts forever. I bought mine in 2014 and I've only gone through two of those sheets.
