Buy your own collars! I have a pair like this, but I’m sure you cold find them for a bit less. They’re much easier to use.

Most people rest between sets. When I work in with someone, I don’t usually worry about how long they (or I) take because we switch off and help change the plates if needed. I also sometimes just ask how many sets they have left and wait if it’s only a few, especially if they’re a lot taller than I am and I’d need to adjust the bar height.

this style works quite well on my dumbbells. Aluminum collar with a nylon/plastic type lever. Easy to find for $20-$30 or you can shell out for the Oso ones that I think have an aluminum lever as well.

You can buy easier ones from amazon and bring them to the gym with you. I like these.

Best thing you can buy for $10

Surprised you got such shitty answers so far. Someone commented the bar is 30mm but that doesn't matter, the sleeves are the same as any Olympic bar. For $25 you can get these, which should hold just about any weight you put on the bar, as seen here.

If you don't wanna spend that much, these also have good reviews and are only $9, would probably be fine for a long time as long as you're not doing a lot of dropping from overhead or something.

5 pounds, if you're using a set like this.

5 kilograms, if you're using a set like this.

I got these OSO imitation collars off of Amazon and I freaking love them.

They don't move at all and are cheaper than the OSO brand ones.

Some kinds of barbell collars might be a worthwhile design to look into. The kind that wrap around the cylinder and provide a lever arm to pretension and lock it into place(like this) would be my choice. There's also the kind that slide onto the end and are tightened by a screw with a lever in it(like this).

Figure out what loads you need to support and try to estimate the clamping pressure required.

I looked this up recently.

/1" plates, 2x2.5lb = $7, 2x5lb = $12, 4x10lb = $68, 2x25lb = $50 | total weight with 15lb = 120lb, without the 2x25lb = 70lb, total

Total = $176 for 6ft 15lb barbell and 120lb weight total, this is w/out tax or shipping tho, some shipping free, some not, $126 if you don't get 2x25lb, and stuck with 70lb weight total.

I’ve got THESE and haven’t had an issue yet. I like them.

u/TinderThrowItAwayNow · 1 pointr/powerlifting

Thanks for the advice.

These ones look too small or am I crazy?

These are the right size?

u/zerobpm · 7 pointsr/Fitness

Nothing better than a gal that lifts! I bought some cheap collars that I bring with me, saves me from trying to find clips. Might help.

u/thebanditredpanda · 1 pointr/xxfitness

You could try a lower bar squat. It's a bit tricky, but you won't need the pad if it's low enough.

PS My gym has these, which I like more than the metal ones, which rust out and get harder and hard to get on the bar: https://www.amazon.com/Proloc-Standard-Olympic-Barbell-Collars/dp/B01GOI2TUK/ref=sr_1_96?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1482426726&sr=1-96&keywords=olympic+barbell+clamps

They're way more expensive, though, I'm only linking them because I like them so much :S

u/SpaceRook · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I also like those.

I don't like the spring clip style.

u/DarciDrake · 5 pointsr/Fitness

Bring your own collar clamps to the gym with you
