>>I had previously been using all Lancome products before starting the SCA routine, and the difference has been astounding. I have skin that gets dry and flaky if I'm not careful or if I pick, but is mostly very oily.

I agree with weenieee - it sounds like you have dehydrated skin which means you need to create a protective, moisturizing barrier on your skin.

>>The Stridex pads work just fine for a light BHA, but they make my skin feel really dry and tight. I was thinking of switching to the Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, because I like their AHA so much, but it has mixed reviews on Amazon. I would love any suggestions or advice on keeping/adding a BHA to the routine.

Personally, I love the cosrx BHA Blackhead power. I don't find it nearly as drying as other BHAs. Additionally, you can use the BHA at the same time as your AHA and give them both time to be active.

>>I just ran out of Lancome Serum and started using the Serumtologie C as a replacement. Is this correct, or was the Lancome doing more than what the Vitamin C will do?

The Vitamin C will be good for your skin, but it will not have the same impact as the Genifique. First, the Genifique has Dimethicone and Castor Oil in it. These are both occlusive moisturizers which will create a protective, moisture barrier on your skin. Second, the Genifique contains two different types of fermentated products - Bifida Ferment Lysate and Faex Extract/Yeast Extract/Extrait De Levure. You can buy fermented products from Amazon for fairly cheap. I personally like Secret Key. cosrx also has one. There are more expensive versions, but there isn't any need to pay Genifique prices.

Here is a video on fermented face products.

For the occlusive moisturizers, you can use plain squalane oil - I also buy this on Amazon. There are also squalane face masks if you don't want to use an oil everyday.

As for the vitamin C product you chose, while the version of Vitamin C is stable, it also needs time to be active on your skin to achieve its full benefits. After washing your face, apply the Vitamin C and wait 10 minutes. There are different types of Vitamin C. Some require more time than others and some are more potent than others. This particular vitamin C also has bunch of other contents, like Dandelion Root and Geranium. I find that a lot of Vitamin C products pack a bunch of ingredients that can potentially irritate your skin. If you find irritation, this might be the cause. They make Vit C serums that are way paired down on ingredients (and have more proven ingredient additions like Vit E, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, and Retinol.

>>I am nearly out of the Lancome eye cream, but have plenty of the Volition eye gel, which is supposed to have snail mucin in it. Is the helix good enough for night and day? If not, are there any you all would recommend?

The Volition seems like an alright eye treatment, but I would expect the snail secretion filtrate to be higher in the list of ingredients. Here is an eye cream where skin filtrate is the first ingredient. It also contains Niacinamide, which can be beneifical. I would say that your eye cream is fine if you like it, but there are potentially better options.

>>I was using the Volition moisturizer for daytime, and really liked it, but I ran out and had a Clinique sample so I tried it. The Clinique gel doesn't moisturize enough, so I'm thinking of buying more Volition Cream, but it is fairly expensive. Is the Volition Cream worth the money, or do you all have any other suggestions for a replacement?

I would take a look at the first ingredients of your Volition Cream. Chances are, like most of these other products, there are cheaper options that are just as effective if you don't want to pay the hefty price tag. I would search r/asianbeauty for the main ingredients.

With dehydrated skin, I would do either a face oil or a night pack on top of your moisturizer. Again, I recommend r/asianbeauty and Amazon.

P.S. If you feel like the Micellar water helps get that extra oil and dirt, maybe look into double cleansing. It can definitely help with flakiness.

So 2-3 months ago I bought all that you see before you. I wanted to start taking care of my skin, as I am now in my mid 30s and noticing my skin changing a bit. I wasn't sure what to do, so I read hella reviews and just went for it. I really liked SR. It did get me hooked on skincare and I will always have a place in my heart for it. Now, like you guys, I am obsessed with skincare and I don't want to marry my highschool sweetheart, I want to fuck everyone in college type of thing.

So, I'm replacing the oil (which should be running out in the next day or two) with Herbivore Botanical Lapis and the Good Genes with Drunk Elephant's Framboos.

So excited to have graduated!!! Thanks for letting me share!!!

Products (bear in mind my reviews are super novice cos this is my first time)

Cleanser: Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip

Out of everything, I like this the most and likely won't be changing this for a while. It's feels mild and I use very little of it, but it does clean the shit out of my skin. Prior to this I was using exfolikate and a slew of other exfoliating cleansers 'cos I have greasy skin. Never thought I'd fall in love with a non-exfoliating cleanser. I la-la-love this. More than my favorite exfoliator, which was by Lush and called Angels on Bare Skin. Never thought that would happen!

Toner : Martian

This smells so bad. I mean, sooooooo bad. The only toner I ever used before this was Thayer's Rose Witch Hazel, which, on all honesty, never did shit for my skin. This felt like it tightened it and definitelyyyyy mattified it. Nonetheless, it maybe mattified my skin too hardcore, but luckily my routine had oil...

ps- I don't think I'll be coming back to this, but if you have acne, I could see how this would be amazing. I have breakouts, like everyone else in the world, but it's not really a huge problem where I need to use something like this.

Oil: U.F.O. Oil

Love this! Love the smell and everything! I never use oil before everrrrr so I have nothing to compare it to, but color me hooked! I want to try all the oils in the world! You guys, it really does feel like this is my second time having sex (cos the first time is always odd) and now I want to have it all the time! I just want all the fucking face oil! Excited to try Lapis next. I get it tomorrow! I should be running out of UFO tomorrow or the day after, so thank you, Amazon, for one-day prime, yo!

Serum: Good Genes

I like it, I guess? Again I have nothing to compare it to. Guess we'll find out after I try the Drunk Elephant one next. I'll probably run out of this by the weekend. Anyway, I'm sure this does good things for my skin, but it definitely needs moisturizer after, 'cos it leaves a white haze on my skin and the moisturizer gets rid of that effect.

Moisturizer: Tidal

FUCKING. LOVE. IT. This is what started it all, 'cos I wanted to start reducing the dark spots on my face. I did my research. Found this and this broke the skincare seal for me. This was the first thing I bought (this is my second jar) and it makes my skin feel so awesome! As a greasy skin person I never wanted for moisturizer, but I was like "OK, PooPooButterySpread, this is what they say will take care of it, so just deal with it if you're extra shiny for a few months". My skin feels so... so nice!! Like I constantly feel cool and refreshed. I can't explain it. It's not like tingly or anything, it's just like there is cold-ass water in my face always and I like it.

Alright, so that's that!

From left to right:
TonyMoly MasterLAB Intensive Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Sheet Mask - $2.80
I tried some really really cheapie HA masks and it made my face feel amazing so I definitely wanted to grab some nicer ones and see if there was a difference. I'm definitely considering adding HA itself into my routine.

TonyMoly I'm REAL Red Wine Mask Sheet Pore Care - $2.62
Oh, my pores and I, the endless struggle. I'll always look for something to subdue you.

Botanics Hydration Burst Hydrating Day Cream - 15.99
I'm currently ONLY doing a PM routine, with facial oils, but I'd like to start doing a morning routine and was looking for a little faster absorption.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater (2oz) - $5
Because my only current moisturizers are oil based, and I'm hoping to add HA in some form or fashion to my routine, I wanted something to help the HA from the masks and whatever future products I added (Currently have TO Mandelic Acid 10% with HA, waiting to add it into the routine) really be effective.

Botanics Organic Softening Cleanser - $10.99
Oh boy am I excited about this, and this is the kind of product I went in looking for. I started my skincare journey using the Pixi Double Cleanse which is a fantastic product my skin loved...except they run out fast and the two products don't run out at the same rate. I'd have happily bought the cream cleanser if they sold it separately, which they don't, so I was asking for a couple of days in the daily help thread for any kind of similar product. The only suggestion was La Roche-Posay Toleriane Gentle Hydrating Cleanser which I got...which then dried out my face and wrecked my moisture barrier so bad it went from drinking in several layers of oil in an hour, to being unable to absorb one in 5. I'm still working on the backlash from that but I am well and truly out of the Pixi now so I had to find a reaplcement cleanser today. I'm really hoping this will do the trick, and I will, of course, report back. I've already tested the PH and it looks to be a solid 5.5.

All from Ulta, in total: $48.56

My skin: Pores galore. Oily when untouched, but dehydrated and dries at the mere mention of a foaming cleanser. Very sensitive to drying but ok with fragrances.
My current routine:
Banila Clean It Zero Sherbert Cleanser
(Second Cleanser was Pixi Double Cleanse Cream, replacing tonight with Botanics Organic Softening Cleanser)
Pixi Glow Tonic (When it's safe to add, will be replaced with The Ordinary 10% Mandelic Acid + HA)
The Ordinary 100% Plant Derived Squalane
[The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil]
Once a week: Aztec Secret + Braggs ACV clay mask (skipped last week due to compromised moisture barrier)

I would like to note - I am especially interested to hear from anyone who uses more natural brands, Burts Bees, Botanics, Shea Moisture, etc. I find the less crazy chemicals and the more natural stuff is easier to pinpoint when my face eventually freaks out.

u/INTJbabygirl · 1 pointr/beauty

I started with a pricy one that is actually made for anti aging. It's called 'Tri-enzyme cleanser' by Elemis. The reason for this is because it increases skin turn over and helped my skin to heal scars very fast. However it isn't fully natural. I then went to lush and discussed skincare, everything there is mostly natural. They helped me replace my cleansers and I got to talk to real trained people. I know people assume they just sell girly bath bombs but that isn't true at all.
Also I cannot recommend the mask of magnaminty from lush more!! It heals my breakouts in 4 days! I started my boyfriend on my regime after his beard acne issue and inflammation reduced by half over night. It is strong so only use it once every 3 days.

Moisturising is extremely important. As stated before I recommend 'Sukin Rosehip Oil'. I will link everything below. Use three or so drops (It is a dry highly absorbing oil so you may need more) always massage upwards and remember your neck. This is particularly good due to its close chemistry to primrose which helps with hormonal imbalance. A lot of persistent acne is due to this. Of course there is the standard advice such as manage stress, drink a lot a lot of water etc

Here are some further methods you can try for severe outbreaks:

  1. Aloe vera gel + arnica + tea tree oil (all in one gel) with rose hip oil. Mix a blob with a few drops of oil and wear overnight thicky after cleansing.
You may find incorporating this in your routine increases skin healing rapidly.
You can do this every night but NEVER in the day, aloe vera can make you burn. Read up on the aloe plant and acne and you will see how highly recommended it is.

  2. Homemade tumeric facemask
    Mix:
  • 1 teaspoon cooking tumeric (yes the yellow stuff)
  • 1 tablespoon chickpea flour
  • 1 tablespoon full fat yoghurt
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • splash milk to thin just enough to spread

You can do this using the simplified version with just the tumeric, yoghurt and honey but it will be runny. Tumeric will not stain you due to the fat in the yoghurt. It is antibacterial and the lactic acid in the yoghurt helps skin renewal.
I had cystic acne and had to use this every day (had to look good for my job) and had the best skin. Added bonus is that it gets rid of dark circles too!

Although it sounds overwhelming you will find as your skin gets better you will need to do less and less to the point where other than cleansing and moisturising you will just need one mask per one to two weeks for general upkeep.

  1. Elemis cleanser (doubled in price unfortunately!): https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00175W3HK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_95BdBbP9KHPDB

  2. Sukin Rosehip oil:
Sukin Organic Rosehip Oil 25ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003VJVS4O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_K7BdBb5MA19W8

  3. Lush mask of mangaminty:
    https://uk.lush.com/products/cleansers/mask-magnaminty-self-preserving

  4. Lush cleansers:
    https://uk.lush.com/products/cleansers-scrubs

  5. Aloe vera gel + Arcania + Tea tree oil:
    https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/dr-organic-aloe-vera-gel-with-tea-tree-60092520?skuid=092520

Please be aware that tea tree oil allergies are common and to always patch test your new products!

As for deodorant commercial deodorants contain aluminium. This can cause oestrogen production which can lead to breast cancer (possibly) and hormonal issues (acne is one). Why I mentioned it is that you have lymph nodes there, the issue is this passes through and cycles through your lympathic system. The main concern is that it literally stops you sweating by plugging up the sweat glands. While cancer causation is inconclusive, it's widely agreed blocking this process and spraying chemicals there can have systemic (whole body effects).
I personally just shower more and wipe there with a damp cloth. Then again as a girl I don't sweat so bad.

Sorry I went on a bit, it's an area I'm pretty passionate about and have researched a lot.
    Hope this helped!

It seems like you’re not getting enough moisture in your routine, you should try incorporating an oil into your routine. Some carriers that work really well are rosehip, jojoba, pumpkin seed, some people even like argan or castor oil (although these are very heavy and I wouldn’t recommend starting with these). Simple carrier oils are generally pretty cheap too, I got this rosehip oil from Amazon for $13 (Rosehip Seed Oil by Kate Blanc. USDA Certified Organic, 100% Pure, Cold Pressed, Unrefined. Reduce Acne Scars. Essential Oil for Face, Nails, Hair, Skin. Therapeutic AAA+ Grade (1 oz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3340K7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Dx5WCb5ZFAHAK). You can also use a facial oil blend from a good brand, I like Herbivore’s Phoenix and Orchid oil (Herbivore Botanicals - Mini Facial Oil Trio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KCPSNPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Bs5WCbHDJW4H9) and I super love Sunday Riley’s Juno oil (Sunday Riley Juno JUNO Antioxidant + Superfood Face Oil, 1.18 Fl Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HW1P8SE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yt5WCbFDTXK83). These are pretty pricey options but since you only need to mix a few drops in with your moisturizer, they last a long time.

But yeah, it definitely sounds like incorporating an oil into your routine would help balance your moisture a bit more. I hope this all helps!

If you look at the ingredients, colloidal oatmeal is prominent which I'm guessing is the ingredient responsible for reducing the redness. Maybe experiment with some CO packets (Aveeno Soothing Baby Bath Treatment, Single Use Packets, inexpensive experiment) or even Oat oil (avena sativa, not colloidal but oat still) to see if that's the ingredient helping you. There are also a lot of DIY CO masks you can make pretty easily too (CO + honey + etc.). Here are some other products that use CO as well. FAB def incorporates it into a lot of their products.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum: Aqua (Water, Eau), Glycerin, Soluble Collagen, Methyl Gluceth-20, Colloidal Oatmeal, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, Chrysanthemum Parthenium (Feverfew) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract ...

Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm: Active Ingredient: Colloidal oatmeal 1\% (skin protectant) // Inactive: Glycerin, water, cetearyl alcohol, isocetyl alcohol, dimethicone, cetyl alcohol, ethylhexylglycerin, avena sativa (oat) kernel oil, avena sativa (oat) kernel extract, ceramide NP,..

Hi all!
I have a regular AB skin routine but struggle with getting enough moisture in my skin. I found a light facial oil on $5 clearance at TJMaxx and thought what the heck, give it a try. It is this product: Medyskin Skin Bright Facial Oil and it contains Lemon Oil, Avocado, Vitamin C and Rosemary (I personally don't think the Vit C is for anything other than show, it certainly doesn't seem active). I tested it on freshly washed but otherwise completely bare skin, and it sunk in immediately and felt nice and smooth and non-greasy.

Here's my question: where do I put this light oil in my routine?

Routine:

  1. Innisfree Apple Juicy Eye and Lip remover (for mascara only: this does not touch my cheeks or it's too stripping)
  2. Cerave Hydrating Cleanser
  3. Silk Naturals Vit C Serum (wait)
  4. Missha FTE
  5. Benton Snail Bee Essence and/or Mizon Snail Intensive Repair ampoule
  6. Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion
  7. Benton Steam Cream (meh, just using it up)
  8. Missha Sunmilk sunscreen
  9. BB cream if I'm blotchy, otherwise that's it.

Since the $5 beauty oil is relatively light and sinks in quickly, I'm guessing it's not an occlusive in the same degree that some oils can be, but I'm actually not sure.

Real question --> Do you guys think I should use it before or after the Hyaluronic lotion? I'm kind of wondering if the Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion will impede the absorption of the oil, or if the $5 Beauty Oil will impede the absorption of the Hyaluronic Lotion?

Blueberry Waffles

Things I always carry (or wish I carried):

  1. Floss- You never know when you're going to get a popcorn kernel or big hunk of food stuck in your teeth. Better to be safe than sorry. I really like the travel flosses that come in a case that's flat like a business card. That way it doesn't take up a bunch of space!
  2. Nail clippers- I am always getting hangnails, and if I don't have clippers, I end up picking at them. Plus they're good for snipping other things, like shirt tags, in a pinch!
  3. Hair spray- this is something that I personally always carry because my hair has no volume without it. I carry a little bottle of Treseme because I like aerosol, but almost every brand has a purse sized mini.
  4. Liquid eyeliner- just in case I'm stranded somewhere without any makeup, liquid eyeliner can be used for eyeliner and mascara in a pinch! I had to use it like this when I visited my boyfriend for the first time and I prayed that no one noticed my weird makeup.
  5. Extra Hair Tie/Pony- You listed bobby pins, but I also love having an extra hair tie stashed away in my purse, because sometimes you just need one.
  6. Headache/cramp medicine!- I get bad headaches, so I always carry ibuprofen in my purse just in case.
  7. Crushed red pepper packet- this one is something that I actually carry, but I'm weird. I love spicy food, so if my food isn't spicy enough and a restaurant doesn't have any crushed red pepper, I've got my handy dandy stash.

Thanks for the fun contest! I can't wait to see what everyone else has to say.

This palette is exactly $20, but I also have my eye on this facial oil for my dry desert-like skin in case the price doesn't stay $20, or if that's too much!.

Hi, nice initiative and thanks for your time. I'd like to know if I use the right products and if I'm doing everything properly.

Using this mapping for reference.

Always have acne around 5 & 9, mild acne at 1 & 2. During breakouts also between 4 - 6 and 10 - 8 and the acne at 1 & 2 gets a bit more noticeable. Acne nowhere else on my body. Acne in general is not that severe in my opinion. But that's just my opinion. :)

Male Indian generally dry/combined skin, have had Acne since the age of 16, currently 22. After the shower my skin screams for moisturizing, which is why I believe I have dry skin. I shower twice a day normal temperature, sometimes cold showers, and I avoid getting my face wet under the shower.

Diet: Eat pretty much anything. Generally healthy things tho, also go to the gym 5 days a week. Like every other Asian family: Rice + meat + veggies lol.

This is my skincare routine:

  1. Cleanse everyday twice.
  2. Exfoliate twice a week on seperate days, Wednesday and Friday.
  3. Mask once a week, Sunday
  4. Apply toner
  5. Apply moisturizing serum
  6. Apply Eye moisturizer
  7. Apply moisturizing creme
  8. Apply moisturizing oil
  9. Apply sunscreen
  10. Apply primer/foundation/concealer/powder.

  11. Use an ointment my general practitioner prescribed, it's called: "Differin Gel". I use this everyday before I go to sleep.

By the way if you know anything about make-up, which I assume you do. I have very dark under eye circles, any way to make it the same tone as my face skin color? It's the thing that annoys me the most, and the women in the make-up shop never take me seriously when I ask for advice lol.

I'd say the Kukui, but in general I think Argan is best for softening hair. You can get some in the same kind of bottle from the same brand, ogx, if you like what you have there. Also you could get some better, pure, oil. Just make sure it's in a dark container.

I use First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser to wash (it's so mild, and it's lasted me a while), Julep Love Your Bare Face to remove makeup, Teddy Organics Orange Blossom Toner right after washing to help with my dry skin, and a few drops of Teddy Organics Jojoba Oil to moisturize. If I do get a zit nowadays, it's probably cystic and I use Smile's PRID Drawing Salve to dry it out/heal it.

I'm really happy with the prices of all these products, too. The jojoba oil lasts forever, and I use it on my hair too.

u/cantlikethat · 12 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I have a lot of experience with facial oils - they are bae. Oils do not cause purging - only actives will cause purging (AHAs like glycolic and lactic acid, BHAs like salicylic acid). I found this site to be extremely helpful in my initial oil search, but it's not the end-all, be-all by any means. If you're acne prone, you'll want an oil with a high percentage ratio of linoleic acid vs oleic acid. Hemp is a good choice, although I find its texture to be a bit too thick for my personal taste, as well as the annoying fact that it has a crazy short shelf life and needs to be refrigerated. As an alternative to hemp oil, I would HIGHLY recommend Rosehip Seed Oil. It's the HG miracle-working thunderous unicorn of my entire routine, I can't say enough good things about it.

Edit: Amazon link to The Precious

It might be the Ingredient opuntia ficus indica extract which is commonly called Prickly pear seed extract or Cactus Barbary Fig extract. It is a lovely oil that does more than Argan or other famous ones. Very hydrating, evens out the skin tone and is enough on its own as a moisturizer or a mask. It is my favorite oil.
There are lots of dupes because it is an expensive oil, they extract the oil from the tiny seeds of the Barbary Fig and it’s a long process. Lots of vendors will mix it with other carrier oils to bring the prices down. The best quality comes from Morocco. ( Source: I am Moroccan).

The Cheapest and best quality I found here in The US is this one Ecla Skincare Prickly Pear Seed Oil. Otherwise, I get it from the source 🙂.

Super awesome.

One more thing, I have been doing the mineral oil then just rinsing it off as well as I can then washing. I see people saying to use cotton rounds to get it off...does it make a difference or no?

Also, in case you or anyone else might need it, I found a $40 bottle of Argan oil on amazon for $12 right now. http://www.amazon.com/LIMITED-SALE-Skincare-Recommended-Cleansing/dp/B00GTRIYXI/ref=sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=1-1&keywords=jenny+sahara+argan+oil

We only actually have a dollar general in this town (it's awful, lol), so if I can't find it there, I will be in town tomorrow and I will hit up walmart and buy both of those! :)

Any recommendations for sunscreen? I currently don't use any (bad I know). Can I use any of it on my face, or are there certain facial ones?

I am so excited, thank you so much for all your help! :D

I think auburn hair would look nice. It's a nice subtle redish hair. And along with this style. Mia Wasikowska's hair style would look super nice on you, another picture and here.

Can you do ebay wishlist item? Ebay item. If not, here's my Amazon item!

Rainbow!

If you're okay with Hada Labo despite them not being CF, you might like their Oil Jelly as a replacement for your CeraVe Healing Ointment. It's like vaesline but with hyaluronic acid. I just picked some up yesterday and it seems really nice.

I don't think they make rose hip essential oil. When I type it in on amazon, it just comes up with the regular oils.

Btw, if anyone wants to try rose hip oil, the co2 extraction method is supposed to be better than cold pressed. That means longer shelf life and supposedly more of the nutritive benefits stay in the oil vs the cold pressed method. I use Pai. The differences I notice in the co2 vs cold pressed are the co2 extracted is thicker, bright orange, smells a lot better. I only need four drops and don't use it everyday so shelf life is important to me. The cold pressed I bought went rancid within a few months and I had over half the bottle left. :(

Since the only active that you’re using is vitamin C and all your other products seem to be free of irritants, I would think that your barrier should be OK...UNLESS you have a particular sensitivity to an ingredient or if your skin is very dehydrated.

I noticed that you’re in Minnesota and I know how brutal the winters can be. (I’m in Chicago.) Since you’re already using Vaseline on your skin, you might give this a try...petrolatum and hyaluronic acid.

Hada Labo Premium Jelly

If you don’t already have one, I highly recommend that you get a humidifier and run it in your bedroom. I use one every winter and it makes a HUGE difference in my skin as well as preventing waking up with a scratchy throat and stuffed sinuses.

I've used this one and liked it a lot :)

Rose hip! It's my go to for very dry and sensitive skin. The deeper the orange hue of the oil, the better it is.
