I've been riding comfortably on a budget for awhile now. There are a ton of items you can get that are just quality of life type shit. I'm just now really starting to get some MTB shorts and cycling socks and stuff. It's nice but not at all necessary to have fun on two wheels. Here's what I recommend:

Bikes: Scour pinkbike.com and your local Craigslist, and once you have found some options in your price range (I suggest spending at least $500 for something that'll last awhile), post back here and ask for recommendations. People love living vicariously through other people buying bikes.

Helmet: Definitely the one piece of safety gear that's a must. Bell Super 2's are on sale right now for $55, or you can go cheaper. Just get a reputable brand like Giro, Bell, or Fox.

Clothes: Whatever is comfortable. Basketball or board shorts, cotton socks, cotton or polyester tees. Clothing has never been a big deal for me in years of riding, I'm only just now starting to buy some MTB shorts/socks, but honestly anything is fine.

Shoes: Skate shoes work perfectly on a budget. I prefer DC shoes like the Lynx over Vans

Gloves: I highly recommend a pair of Mechanixwear Original Gloves. I got a pair of these 4 years ago when I started MTBing again, and they're STILL holding up perfectly.

Multitool: One of these is very useful, especially if you don't own a set of metric allen wrenches. They are crucial for making adjustments to your stem, adjusting bars, seatpost height, shifter and brake positioning, and adding/removing bottle cages.

Pump: I'm not quite sure which one to recommend, but I have a Serfas floor pump that's worked decently for me. Obviously a must for any biker.

Hydration Pack: Not a necessity if you have bottle cages, but still helpful for carrying food, first aid, tubes, patch kit, multi tool, mini pump, etc. for trail side repairs. If you're really on a budget, any small backpack can work as long as it's secure and comfortable enough. I have a Camelbak Rogue. It's a bit too small but it gets the job done. I have a hardtail so I'm able to run dual bottle cages.

Are there any parameters -- shoes that either you or your clients won't tolerate? If not, there's a very wide range of possibilities; although your $100-120 budget may make it more difficult to find something well-made.

If I gather correctly, your major requirements will be comfort, durability and/or disposability (which translates to cheap price), and a dressy look.

Desert boots are very easy to match with a lot of different outfits. They tend to be pretty comfortable, and can be found at the low end of what other casual shoes go for. You'll have to feel out whether the ankle-high leather will be a problem, or whether it could actually help by keeping the boot on your foot as you squirm around under desks.

You might be a good candidate for leather sneakers, especially if your look is a bit youthful. Don't pile up on me, MFA!! I'm not talking about Skechers and sneaker-dress hybrids. There are some fantastic, sleek, sporty leather sneakers out there. Some of them are made by high-end designers like Prada and Gucci and Lacoste; but even then you may find them on sale or clearance.

Here's an example that's out of your budget; but I have, for sure, seen similar shoes on sale in the low hundreds $$. Here's an example of a designer suede sneaker/high-top at a sale price. Fossil, Diesel, and Guess may have some alternatives for you, also at the clearance shelves.

At $160, we're getting closer to your budget with these. John Varvatos and Converse are apparently collaborating; and these leather sneakers are available at Mr. Porter for $145.

There's too much running shoe referencing for my liking in these designs by Adidas and Puma; but you may have luck checking out the leather lineups of traditional sneaker brands.

If you stay away from trainer- and technical-looking hybrids, the leather should automatically make the shoe a bit more dressy. You'll also have a bit of a style advantage by having a shoe that not many others are wearing. And here's a great tip: Swap out the cotton laces for thin leather lacing. The shades of brown leather will look great together, and will take another step upward from the scuffy, knockabout sneakers one wears mowing the lawn.

The Tretorn Krona is a great-looking leather high-top that
clearly borrows from the desert boot look. I think leather lacing would look great on these.

Bucks should also be available on sale at lower prices, as well as buck-inspired shoes like the Adidas Samba. But I'd be sceptical about the durability of suede being dragged on carpets dozens of times a day.

Skewing more toward comfort, and depending on the type of casual clothing you're wearing, moccasin drivers or moccasin boots may do. But this is wandering pretty far from a professional image, if that's of any concern.

If you feel fine going more expressive with your footwear, the sportiness of Onitsuka Tigers is super. The shoes conform to the feet very well, and are very flexible, which will allow you to curl your toes under comfortably when you kneel. They come in a vast variety of color combinations. I purchased a couple of pairs at $100 each; and they're my go-to sneaker.

I have mixed feelings about Vivobarefoot, but at this point I pretty much exclusively wear their shoes. Go figure.

Many moons ago, I got a pair of Vibram FiveFingers. They were my only pair of shoes, I loved them! I used them for the sports I do and I used them for everything else. "Barefoot" shoes have proven to help me with my plantar fasciitis (caused by rather high arches) and the ground feel of barefoot shoes is also unique and I like it.

Anyways, I found /r/malefashionadvice and realized how much of a tragedy FiveFingers are. I started wearing regular shoes and boots that I really liked how they looked, but just weren't comfortable. My plantar fasciitis came back.

So, I started looking into fashionable barefoot shoes and Vivobarefoot is really the only current brand that is trying to make "normally" appropriate shoes. (Sometimes lmao)

So, I've bought most of my Vivobarefoot shoes via Amazon because I like prime shipping and I trust their compliance with returns, but I haven't actually returned any of the shoes I've bought.

My first pair of Vivobarefoot shoes was the Scott in black. It's comfortable! It's pretty snug around the ankle and a little hard to get my foot in and out, though the flexibility of the sole makes it easier. I don't know exactly how long I've had the boots, but they've held up rather nicely. Next, I wanted a pair of clean white sneakers since those were all the rage.

I ordered the Bannister in white and the Libson in brown, excitedly accepting that I was transitioning into wearing barefoot shoes again. The bannister I was not a fan of. They're slippery on the bottom, they are really squeaky, they look and feel like rough, cheap dress shoes. I don't like the straps, the bottom natural leather stripe is not an attractive detail (IMO)...

BUT THE LIBSON DOE

I really like the Libson. It is rather creased up from wear at this point, but it seems like it's going to hold up. It's gotten scuffed at work and only has light marks rather than rough scratches.

I really want to get a nice white pair of shoes from them, but they just don't seem to offer that. They do offer the Gobi II, specifically, in other colors like brown suede, but they do have other boot/chukka like shoes too. Look through their website and search for them on Amazon.

I can give you my thoughts on a few other shoes I've tried if you want, but my overall opinion is "They make okay barefoot shoes and I don't really have a better choice. I think they could make better styling and branding choices."

Im super lost at the moment. I have no fashion sense at all.

Background
I have to go to a casual wedding dinner. Don't need to wear a suit but at least semi decent. I need to try and get everything asap. I prefer ordering from stores that accept shoprunner or on amazon.

I mainly wear jeans, buttown downs, and Clarks Men's Bushacre 2. so i need to buy some new stuff for this casual wedding dinner. I think i need to seriously start investing in better cloths or start switching away from jeans this summer.

My budget:

Shoes - $100

Pants - $100-150

Belt -$30

I already have some oxford button down shirts.

I was thinking of wearing this

  • Top
Charles tywhitt Slim fit white plain washed Oxford shirt

  • Pants
    Thinking of picking up some
Gap Khakis slim vintage wash navy/blue

The pants is supposed to be not too baggy at the bottom right like dress pants. I usually wear 34 in length for jeans but i think for khakis its a bit shorter so 32?

  • Shoes
Keds Men's Champion Original Canvas Sneaker in white

are there better canvas shoes that look better?

Or should i go with from light brown oxfords wingtips? Which ones should i get.

  • Belt
Where can i get a pretty cheap belt? and fast that will work with this outfit.

Any advice on what to buy and etc im open to it . I've seen some better shoes in peoples pictures without much logo's etc.

I just figured white button down, navy chinos, white canvas shoes should be fine.

    Thanks!!

he says right there he was sent the promotion

this boils down to him wantin to give his honest impressions while having some fun, and still giving amazon what they ask for to reap his credit/whatever compensation there is. after all, i clicked the link to all the shoes on amazon under $50 or whatever and im definitely gonna scroll thru a ton of pages and possibly buy 1 or 2 pairs, or perhaps none. but that's why it's a win

^ actually buying this, because i've been waffling on buying my second pair of converse in at least 15, maybe 20 years. (that is to say, i was a young kid when i last wore converse) these are rather impeccably patterned and printed. Given it's Warhol and not specifically Campbells being featured in the shoe intent, I assume attributed more care to their layout on these kicks

I am the most indecisive person when it comes to shoes. I find it a really awkward thing to buy, specially in-store when you have to do that little test walk that makes people always walk funnily rather than normal.

I think its really hard to have a look for someone else so I focused on what I am looking for.

I started with comfort so you have a few different style of Skechers.
1)I dont know your family situation but these strike me as dad sneakers lol
2)These are a little bit more serious. I am from the UK so terminology is somewhat different. Not sure if you would consider them sneakers
3)These are sportier and ideal if you like to run but dont want to spend way too much on running shoes
4)Nike also has these running shoes I have always liked Nike shoes and they have a variety of colours, even if size 15.
5)I think these Adidas look amazing. I love that combination of colours.
6)Last but not least, another pair of Nike ones that I liked

Let me know what you think. I think I found it easier than choosing for myself which is very odd. I guess the hard part for me is making the final decision!

Should I win, I am happy for you to surprise me.

Thank you and have a nice day
